"NOW the advantage of using TA22 struts over XT130. TA22 are shorter therefore do not need to be shortned if you wish to lower the car a decent amount without converting to coilovers. whilst the hilux twin spot calipers will bolt the the XT130 struts you can do a VERY simple brake upgade on the TA22's using a Girlock (Commodore VK-VS) caliper and a Pintara 250mm vented disc."

Just read that in the toyota interchangable odditities thread, anyone tried this setup and anyone know if TA23 front struts are the same as TA22?

Poida, $260 is a LOT for those discs. Im sourcing mine for $88 each. Maybe its time to get a few pairs. Will investigate.

Cheers mate, yeah i thought it was a bit pricey too. Yeah i think trade price is about $90. I'm interested in info on the upgrade mentioned above using the commodore calipers and the pintara disc.

FYi - the girlock VB-VK caliper is a single piston design folks.
in the scheme of things its not a real great caliper (wasn't for commodores let me give you the mail there)
the 4 piston would be the better IMHO - depends on what you want. if you want surface area then yeah go for it with the single piston as you'll get surface area backed with a largish pad operated by single caliper. the 4 piston is very very good though.

Whats the huge advantage of multiple pistons? I see the ease of fitting with the commodore ones as the main benifit, but I guess you have to make up a bracket and why not just make up a bracket from the hilux ones and do the same thing there.

Pressure is more evenly distributed across the pad.
They also sink (remove) heat quicker from the pad.

my hilux calipers didn't need a bracket to bolt to my rt132 struts
i machined down the rotors to 266mm and they are perfect.

if you have to make a bracket up - and want to use a commodore caliper - get yourself some twin piston vt-vz calipers - they are around $50 each brand new - pads have a large surface area too. not a bad caliper either.

Interesting, so maybe RT132 struts have the same caliper boltspacing as the XT130. Ill have to delve into that one at a wreckers sometime.

oh really?? why is that? IMO heat sink qualities would hvae come down to the material (alloy vs iron) more then the caliper style... been told that the foulcoons have a single piston alloy slide caliper, which is great for weight and heat loss, but not so great for efficiency... which makes sense to me

has anyone managed to use skyline brakes on the RA2x's before??? i think CrUZida had a kit for the like of GA/MA and some others, and they APPEAR to be the same, can use the MS65 hubs, skyline rotors and callipers, with an adaptor plate, and ring

Because they are LOTS larger. Remember you arnt braking constantly so having calipers which are able to hold heat for dissipation when you are going down the next straight is much preferable to having less heat capacity and dissipating it while you are braking.

Oh, interesting thing i found out tonight. The Hilux upgrade increases the track width by a few mm. The +18 offset rims which i have only just clear the stock struts by about 3mm, but clear the corona struts by about 15-18mm.

    See here

    Ill get comparative pics eventually.
