Default indicators OUT, Flasher relay burnt

Went down to the bank, all was well until I was leaving. First I realised indicators stopped working. So I pull over to see what was up, trying indicators and hazards. Then i see smoke and I realise the flasher relay is overheating and burning a hole through the case.

Indicator lights are out. Flasher relay clicks sometimes but not like normal working order. What things may have caused this, I believe there is more to it than just the flasher relay.

    Hi,

Depends exactly which part is burnt out. I assume it is the relay coil? If so, it could of developed a short-circuit. It could of been dodgey from the day it was built and finally it gave out.

I doubt the actual globes or their wiring would be the cause as they are fused and hang off the relay contact side of the device.

In any event you'll need to get another bokka unit - either from Toyota spares or go and rip one out off a wrecked AE92.

Check that your wiring for the indicators arent touching, or earthing out on something. Work from your flasher and up.

Those flasher units can cost around $50. Mine got water in it (came though the dreaded corolla top-corner of windscreen rusthole) and buzzed itself silly. With this kinda stuff you have to make sure you are getting to the core of the problem (if there is one.)

Sounds like the wiring for the indicators are touching.

yeah coil burnt out. Looks like wiring at the moment. Have put on another flasher relay and has the same problem, about to burnt out again. So wiring some where must be touching or something.
