Default Clutch problems w58 in ae86

Hey guys i just finished my conversion w58 to ae86,, Went for a drive and i notice i cant shifter gears when i fully push the clutch in , i have to bake it off abit and it then goes in..Also if i push the pedal the whole way in it makes this grinding noise , If this helps i used a slave cylinder from a t18 and the clutch is a 5 puk excedy cushion button. Someone has mention to me the push rod 'slave cylinder" is pushing to much on the fork could this be right ? Any ideas and help would be appreciated

    Cheers reece

Yep, sounds like you are pushing the spring diaphragm too far... and its contacting the clutch plate.. DO NOT drive it any more like this, you will destroy it!

Shorten the slave pushrod, and adjust then adjust your pedal closer to the floor to take up the free play.

thanks for your reply , so i can adjust the pedal position ? also how do i go about shortening the slave rod shave it off with file or ?

i am using a stock ae86 slave now abit smaller and it does the same thing if you push the clutch pedal in the hole way but its not as bad as the t18 one

Maybe you could slot the mounting holes for the slave a little? Mount it back further. You can do what you want to make the rod shorter jus make it nice n smooth like it is now or your increase the wear on the fork.

hey mate slotting the slave holes is a good idea didnt think about that all it needs is like 1mm difference and i can fully engage the clutch pedal like a normal car .

Slotting the holes wont be too easy as they are tabs not a solid bolting position. You dont want the slave falling off. Get a spare slave rod or close to simiar bolt with the head removed and use a bench grinder to shorten it. Make sure its bled fully and adjust the pedal play if needed.

Does the slave's piston bottom out & prevent the clutch from fully engaging?
Does the slave's piston almost pop out & prevent the clutch from dis-engaging?
IF neither, then don't do anything about the push-rod length or cylinder mount.

Put in a pedal stop, or just lower the pedal height to reduce the travel in the clutch MC.

True, if you still have some thread left at the master cylinder pushrod (attached to the clutch pedal), then adjust your pedal height down there first. I assumed you had already done this and were out of adjustment.

I was thinking about using a pedal stop, but going of what i said its like the slave push rod is pushing to much on the fork.. I will try to lower the pedal height alittle abit. If this doesnt work ill try to slot the slave and mount it back abit.. Cheers guys

New PBR clutch masters have that same note in the box saying to ajust the travel of the master cyl rod . It must be a problem with some of the newer master cylindersi think .
When i fit one i always ajust it up accordingly anyway .

HAve you got any pedal free play????

Maybe the slave cylinder is too small for the clutch master cylinder, the master cylinder might be pushing to much fluid for the size of the slave resulting in too much slave travel.

I had a t18 slave on it beofre mate it was abit bigger then the ae86 one.. So i used the ae86 one and drilled out the holes to a 12mm and moved the slave back about 1.5 mm thats all it needed to work
