    Default 2jz pwr steering pump

yea so after the cruise the other day when my hp line melted through in the hills i had to drive home with no power steering fluid, only about 10-15mins away.

i didnt worry much about it because i have driven the 1jz cressida around for about 2 weeks with no power steering and that thing went fine for years afterwards.

so i get back home and get the guy to come around and make up a new line, but i got it made up with 1/4 line instead of the 3/8th because i was trying to tighten up the steering (allready had 2 different size restrictors in the 3/8 with no effect)

so anyway the 1/4 is on and pump sounds like it has no fluid and the resivour is full of bubbly fluid and the pump makes a fucked noise that increases in pitch with the engine revs.

power steering still works fine though, but i dont give it too much because im scared of the noise.

got a new line made up today: 3/8 with the last resctrictor in it and the pump is kind of the same but a little better, no bubbles in the res and only makes a fucked noise on full lock, but that kind of went away after a while.

everyone says "give it a good bleed" and i have replaced fluid/hoses etc heaps of time with the pwr steering and not done anything special to bleed it.

is there anything special i need to do to bleed it properly, coz if the 3/8 line is working properly then maybe i need to bleed it better with the 1/4 line?

also does anyone have a spare pump or know how easy they are to reco?

Did you run the pump dry . If you did it may take a while for the pump to "get over it" but sometimes they dont come good.
Its the trouble with modern cars and the serpentine belt .

As said, give it some time...

More than likely it will come good

yep they take a while to become quiet but i dont know how long is too long.

mine took about 15 minutes of constant lock to lock steering with the wheels off the ground to come good.

we were VERY worried for a while there. The noise is terrible.

Jack up front wheels. Go from lock to lock repeatedly until noise goes. I have a spare 2JZGE pump on my motor at Takai's if you get into any trouble. Hopefully they are teh same.

well i wsted a hundred bucks getting the 3/8 line made up.

put the 1/4 back on and i guess the system had been bled enough with the 3/8 coz there were no more bubbles and not as much noise from the pump.

jacked it up and turned the wheel some more and it seems all good, plus i took it for a drive and the 1/4 line provides the perfect amount of resctriction in the steering, it it much more firm but still easy enough to drive with one hand when you are cruising.

hope the pump goes ok with this restriction, at leat i have a spare line in case i fucks itself again.
