    Default 4Y-E gear on a 3Y

Before I put up a wanted ad, does anyone know if the 4Y-E intake manifold/dizzy will bolt to a 3Y ?

Ok, judging by the fact that on eBay there are heads to suit '3Y and 4Y' that the heads are the same, and thus the intake manifold should bolt up.

Likewise there is an auction for a dizzy suit '1Y, 2Y, 3Y, 4Y' so a 4Y-E dizzy should fit the 3Y.

Looks like I answered my own question

i read on ebay once that a JZZ30, JZX90 and JZA70 power FC were all exactly the same.

hope this isnt one of those cases though!

Yeah, gotta take a punt though I suppose.
Not like the outlay is going to be as big as a Power FC !

manifold is the same but the 4ye has slightly different water jacket locations and the cylinder heads are not interchangeable with the blocks, head gaskets are different to allow for this. Dizzy is the same but if you can find an electronic one from a 4y that would be an advantage

I'll need to use a 4Y-E dizzy as it will have the proper pickups in it.
I'm not sure if the 4Y dizzy is the same as the 4Y-E, but the 3Y is points.

It sounds like its all feasible though, cheers.

Yep thats right about the dizzys, from memory I thought they have the ignitor attatched to the dizzy?, Straight swap. Extractors are still available for these as well. a mild cam grind also does wonders for the performance too. The last one I rebuilt was a homologation of 3y and 4y parts and went very well.

Not sure about the ignitor, I'm used to dealing with dizzys in 5M cars, which have separate ignitor.
Extractors are already on the car.
Mild cam would probably push the budget build outside what I want to spend, but will keep an eye out.

    Cheers for the help.

are you aiming to convert this thing to FI?

If you mean fuel injected, yes, if you mean forced inducted, no.

Not so much polishing a turd. Polishing a turd would be rebuilding the motor with high comp pistons, porting the head, cam, etc etc.

This is more like spending a couple of hundred bucks to get rid of a carby.
And it will also make any later conversion easier as I would already have the EFI fuel system and wiring ready.

    i still vote for a 3RZ conversion.

you know that anything you spend on that engine will be non-refundable by resale.

we'll at least i wouldnt count on any return if you decided to upgrade later on

For sure, hence the couple of hundred dollars budget.

I don't have the time and/or money at the moment for a full 3RZ conversion.

It depends on the head the 3 Y has got if its a early 3Y then im not sure . the late 3Y,s used the 4Y head anyway and can be identified by 4Y on the casting near a headbolt .
