AE85 4age conversion questions

Hi all, ive got myself a ae85 trueno with the 3A

Ive got a Redtop 16V 4age and im going to start the conversion, Ive searched around and cant find any solid information on what i have to change with the waterpump. is it just the 4age RWD waterpump? 3a pulleys?

Ive got the fuel, exaust and wiring issues undercontrol

Well the best way to do it would be find all the RWD 4AGE water system parts and use them, don't try to swap the pulleys over. Thats not the only way though. It'll be a similar situation to putting a FWD 4AGE into an australian AE86 or AE71 with a 4AC, so most things on that topic will help you.

I'd suggest you change the gearbox though when you do the convo, K50's aren't the best, try and find yourself a T50.

As for the k50 i understand there very tiny, (im used to dealing with w58s & R154s) but will it handle the extra power and torque ok? its just a standard clutch and i will be weary and wont be doing savage clutch kicks or drift attempts, i just dont want it to tear apart if i change down to pass somebody or something, im keeping a eye out for a t50 but good cond are hard to find

No, don't keep the K50. A T50 is a much better proposition behind a 4AGE. Whilst the K50 might handle the stock power, it'll quickly go bust if you mis-treat it or start upping the power. Remember they were designed for cars putting out HALF the power of a smallport 4AGE.

As Hiro has said, whilst a K50 will probably handle the stock power for the time being, you may not get much life out of the box unless drive the car like a grandma.

One other point to mention, if you find an early 20 spline T50 behind a 2T or 3T and then swap an A series bell housing onto it you wont need to change your tailshaft.

The 20 spline is a little weaker, they are worth less but will handle a stock 16v 4AGE with no trouble.
