How to make a turbo-to-manifold gasket?

Hey all, if I wanted to make a gasket for between the turbo and manifold, how would I go about it and what material would I use?
Having stupid amounts of trouble to purchase the gasket I need and bit over it. So thinking of trying to make one.
Any info would be great.

good luck, i havn't seen a handmade turbo gasket last for more than 2 months yet.

have you tried GT pumps? send them an email as they do a few Trust copy turbos and would probly have a gasket to suit.

IF you want to make one id probly use copper or similar and anneal it properly but i cant garuantee it would hold up.

Thin copper sheet would also be my personal choise. Cut to shape and anealed, it should survive the heat and pressure. Flat flanges with a good smooth finish are a requirement for gasket survival.

I had a similar situation in that I cuoldn't get a gasket so I cut one from copper (bought the copper from a craft shop as they do small sheets in varying thickness), lasted about 3 years and I only replaced it because I sourced a proper one and had the turbo off for some reason.

I've got a copper turbo to dump gasket in at the moment, been there about a year so far.

swansons Gaskets in hornsby/waitara can make whatever gasket you need....they make headgaskets also......and have a large range of material's.

I've run no gasket before and just some sealant (silicone) and never had any issues. But both surfaces were dead flat.

What ever you use, the surfaces have to be smooth clean & flat and the gasket has to be crushable & able to conform to the surface. Copper, steel & aluminum sheet will have to have a bead or they won't conform/crush much at all.

makeing your own gaskets can be very handy ever tried to by a oil feed gasket for a ct26 and i dont like liquid gasket can often fail and get caught in places it's not ment to be. can always buy any gasket material water/oil gasket paper is handy to leave it in the shed and is cheep as in roll form is like $10 for a roll 1m x 30cm x thickness. exhaust gasket paper is bit more but it has steal sandwidged inbetween 2 layers of gasket material but isnt really good in a turbo aplication as mentioned above copper is the go often got a bit of pipe laying around i can cut long ways and flaten out. if you have trouble cuting the shape out use your girl friends lip stick to colour in the surface then press on some paper to make an out line and then after triming out as a template you can transfer it onto your gasket paper.
