    Default Sliding Yoke

Gday I need my A341 to be converted to a sliding yoke in order to continue my conversion. MV auto's in SA quoted about $500 for the job, which Im fine with, however Im located in Sydney. Does anyone know any good shops/people in Sydney who do this kinda thing? Any recommendations? Thanks

If you talk to Ichiban Imports they know a shop in Wollongong who do it.

I can't help with someone to convert for you,

But there are a few other options in most cases...

Why do you need to keep the sliding yoke?

Some other options are to keep the 3 pronged output-with rubber donut and run a commodore style CV / center bearing (which has some in/out movement) in a new tailshaft. (you might not have room for this option?)

Or get a flange with uni that bolts upto the 3 pronged output and then run a commodore CV / centerbearing...!

    Just some options

Wilbo, to be honest with you I'm actually rather confused and have gathered contradictory information from a lot of "specialists". My car IS indeed a live axled commodore (well toyota lexcen actually) with a split driveshaft, unis either end & a CV in the middle. Before looking into my 1uz motor/box conversion, I had never heard any trouble of interchangability with IRS & Non-IRS gearboxes amongst the holden crowd. In fact both Live Axle & IRS commodores run identical driveshafts and identical boxes in the same model (this is the case with my VS V6 anyway). What I'm trying to suss out is whether or not the split driveshaft I run will do the job, or will I have to have the A341 modded to have a sliding yoke? Some places have said yes, others have said no. I read on Lextreme that a box with a sliding yoke will be needed on live axled vehicles, and I do know people have had this problem...but is it only for those whom run a solid driveshaft?

In my opinion there is heaps of travel in the commodore CV!

If you have room, then I'd run the 3 prong, and if you don't then I'd convert it to a uni at the end of the gearbox!

I did a fair bit of looking into it when I did my conversion, and I went with a commodore CV (IRS tho).

What model was the commy CV out of? As said before my car is a commodore (IRS and Live Axle driveshafts are the same) , so I'm hoping its a simple task of grafting the 3 prong from the crown driveshaft onto the end of the commodore driveshaft. I'm now almost sure the TH700's don't have this sliding yoke mechanism, so therefore shouldn't be needed in my conversion

thats the main problem, alot of shops can't do it correctly and get it to balance up correctly.

depending on the speed sensor and solenoid config couldn't you just use the box from a UZS131 Crown? it should be a plug in job and has a sliding yoke already, i just did it on a ute im building at work.

UZS131 crown runs a different speed sensor to the rest of the 1UZ's.
The UZS131 is a hall effect where as the rest are reluctance.

Yeah look to be honest I could run with the older style tranny, however its a bit unethical at the moment seeing as I have tight funds and a perfectly good transmission. Im sure there are places who can graft the end of the crown tailshaft to the commodore tailshaft, but thats not my problem right now.... Does anyone know if I will need to run a slip yoke?
