Default Shock Absorber strut listing- Urgent need 300mm long

    Hey Guys,

in an attempt to keep the Mark II going i need to replace the front shock cartridges asap.

They are a simple strut type :

The issue is that i need a short stroke style cartridge.

The length needed is 300mm long or (303mm MAX!)
Also diameter of the cartridge being 50mm or under.

I have had a look into SW20/ST185 and they are the closest ive found.
    SW20 = 360mm
    ST185 = 345mm

Does anyone know how to obain a Gabriel/Monroe/KYB product spec PDF or similar so i can do some more research .. as they are impossible to find on the official sites.

I would even go Nissan if i new anything about them. And if any of you do ? please help me!

    cheers
    John.

Edit: I can't have a look at my paper cat, I've lent it to thechuckster

But I found the CD they also sent me So I'll have a look at that...

    Send me your email address

I found the PDF version of the 2006 paper cat... I don't have any hosting or I'd host it

Not looking good tho, shortest I found is...
    317mm: 25-0826+ VOLKSWAGEN - Golf (Series I & III), Convertible 79-93,VOLKSWAGEN - Golf (Series I), Hatchback 73-8/83

    Actually...
    270mm, V-3001+, Suzuki - carry, ST90V, Van, Standard, 2WD, 1982-1985, Front
(It says 'other' cartridge type tho...no idea what that means!)

    Cheers

and how much damping it would give?

have you gone to toyota and asked them? don't they use tokico or KYB as stock inserts?

why not call an actual shop.. and you know.. ask them if they have anything in stock?

or is that too obvious for you?

    if only OC

    They are JIC coilovers.

Toyota wont care, and JIC coilovers use JIC shocks. Which are blown ... did u even read my initial post ?

Call an actual shop ? and what ? say "do you have any dampners cartridge that are 300mm long"

they will say "yeah we can custom make one for you, $26256908029824"

    John.

yes. call Kmac an ask. they can do custom shocks for not much.

alternatively, give up on the JICrap, and just order TEINs...

A decent shock place might be able to recon them...i.e. the WA equivalent of 'Shockreco' over here... http://www.shockreco.com.au/

Another option might be to look into rear motorcycle shocks? lol

On page 189 it tells you the different types of inserts (with a pic and dims), i.e. T1, T2, T3, T3, T5, T6.

i.e. POST, TYPE, BODY, COMP, EXTN, ROD NUT, etc

On page 135 "NUMERICAL LISTING – CARTRIDGES" it tells you the dims of the shock inserts for different cars!

Also given that mr oldones, has indicated that JICs are rebuilable, why aren't you simply exploring that option?! Makes more sense to me!

Try calling KYB, usually they are really helpful: http://www.kyb.com.au/contact.htm.

Link to pdf catalogue, but doesn't give dimensions.

not sure if it's much help, but the trd damper list lists a few around the 300mm mark

    48511-AE140 - 301mm
    48511-EP840 - 301.5mm
    48511-ST040 - 295.5mm
    48511-ST050 - 301mm

they all seem to be about 43mm OD too

    listings are from here
