Hi all,
Can someone please tell me what make and model Toyota and year of manufacter the 21c and 22re engines came out in.
Cheers, Wheelie.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.

RA23 - Twincharged
JZZ20 - Daily
RA60 = 21RC (1982-1983?)
RA65 = 22RE (1983?-1985)
RT142 = 22RE (??->1986?)
etc
I'm foggy on the exact years, but you can look up the years for the model codes!
Cheers
Wilbo
Thanks for your help.
Cheers Wheelie.

RT133 Corona also had the 21RC.

22R-E was only available in US Toyota Pick-ups (Hilux's) for that time. As far as I know it was only in the imported Surfs as far as Hilux's are concerned. Look for Corona's, Hilux Surf's and Celica's I'm pretty sure.

AFAIK the 22RE did not come out in the hilux but the 22RC did.
In the US, they also had a 22RTE.

wtf? Didn't I post in this thread? Meh... Apparently there are 22r's in the coaster buses also.
my mate had a 94 hilux with a 22re which he sold a month ago.
But surely i posted in this thread yesterday??? scratches his head
hilux's from 90 onwards (from memory) had a newer 22r-e than found in the rt142 corona / ra65 celicia. These ran till late 94 / 95. Solid motor and good fuel economy (when looked after)
newer ecu maps / better sensors etc
Early coasters had a 20r and later models had the 22r-e
I'm assuming you are asking these questions because you are trying to build a hybrid? I'm just about finished putting my hybrid together (late model 22r-e block with an early 21r-c head) so if you need any help with these motors mate, i'd be glad to help you out.
I don't want all my research to go to waste![]()
The abomination that was the Landcruiser Bundera had the 22R as well
AE102 - Charlene the Old Faithful, Reborn
JZZ30 - Lexi the Spacecruiser, 1JZGTE>>3SGE. 200rwkw, hunting Skylines and n00bs in SS Commodores
ST162 - Charlie the non-ghey Celica, 3SGE>>4AGE. GOOOOOOOONE
AE82 - Rosie the Bitsa from Hell, 70.8kw atw. Has been converted into garage space and money at last
KE55 - Billie the Beast, sadly missed
Well there you go, I learnt something new today. I'd just never seen a 22R-E in a Hilux that wasn't an import.
The 22R-TE was in the American Surf's as well.
What's this hybrid you speak of Soulfire?

Well to be perfectly frank, the 22r-e has a hopeless cylinder head design.
So i'm using a 21r-c head (this has nice big combustion chambers) with my 22r-e block.
Mind you, it won't be EFI when it goes back together, I've got a manifold with 2 solex's hanging off it ready to go on when the motor's back together.
The biggest sore point of the 20/21/22r series motors, is their incapability to breath. So I've done a bit of backyard headwork / research into making an incredibly tough motor, for a small budget (under 1.5k)
Final CR of my motor should just be shy of 10:1 if I've done my sums correctly!
So i'm pretty excited about running this badboy in!
Droning twincarbs and a meaty top end... excitement![]()
