    Default t04e turbo question

After asking around ive been told the t04e would be a good candidate for my 1g now ive found one thats been recond and sounds pretty good.

Heres the following specs i dunno much about turbos yet so im wondering because its been highflowed would it be too laggy on a 1g?

*The turbo has a .50 a/r comp cover and .70 a/r internally waste gated turbine housing.

*Compressor wheel has a 54mm inducer and was fitted when high flowed - turbo has not been used since.

*Has a brand new housing and a large trim turbine wheel.

You have a manifold to suit ?

For a 2L might be a little bit too big to tell you the truth, generally well suited to a 2.5L upwards to about a 3 L

old tech and too laggy for a small 2.0

get something ballbearing and suited to the sr20(cheap, plentiful), like a discopotato or hks2530, personally i have in my hot little hands a gt28rs with .82 housing.

I will let you know how my HKS GT2530 goes... it's in the process of being fitted.

I'm not sure if turbos designed for 2l 4 will have the desired result on a 2l 6 - I've been told that you're supposed to consider individual cylinder size - thought exactly why I have never got agood answer on. At any rate, do some research into recommended turbos for RB20s for the kind of upgrades and power you want.

Kedderz, I'll be interested to know how the GT28RS with .82 goes. Is it T3 or T2 flange? I read that .82 is recommended for street SR20, but .64 for RB20.

Im running a 6boost mani + cams and cam gears and a microleb, all this should help overcome the slight lag increase which comes with a .82 housing and then i get the benefits of the higher flow of the .82 housing at high rpm's.

thats the plan anyway, we'll see how it goes.

im going gt3076r with 0.63 exhaust housing

i reckon a gt2871r with 0.82 would be cracker jack though also

Doesn't sound too bad to be honest.

If you can get the outside diameter of the exhaust wheel and let us know, we can give you a better 'yes' or 'no' answer.

As by the sounds of things, it sounds like it may be a t4/t3 hybrid in which case it would suit perfectly for a 2L if its cheap enough.

Thanks for all the replies guys, unfourtunatly i missed out on it, went on ebay for $500 and yea it was a t3/t4 hybrid, but atleast i got some good info of what too look for.

Ive become a little confused on what too look for in housing size, is 0.63 better for smaller capacity engines? but you could use a 0.83 aswell? what would the difference be? Im under the assumption the smaller size would give boost earlier on?

We really need to know what the exhaust wheel outside diameter is before we can suggest either the 0.64 or 0.83 as this ratio is relative to the exhaust wheel size itself.

Hey, plain bearing aren't all bad.

Technically, yeah, a brand new garrett ball bearing shiny number is going to be great. It doesn't mean that you should go and throw out anything that remotely looks like a T3/T4 though.

For comparison, here are the specs of the HKS GT2530 that is currently being fitted to my 1G. It's aimed at being a responsive streetable upgrade for RB20/25s.
