actuly i think the stock 4agze gasket its pretty good, i was running 22psi all day for ages the only reason i pulled it apart was to use the head on the new motor.

i had a cometic gasket that blew so bad it buckled and all the in/ex side of the gasket elongated outwards, it was mission just trying to get it off the studs, (this was a diff tuner tho)

ive gone for the trd gasket .8mm this time.

One particular area to be careful of.... the D/S rear bolt... it is where one of the oil drains is... the newest factory headgasket seals the drain from the rear bolt... allowing easier removal, and properly sealing the drain. Most, if not all the aftermarket gaskets do NOT seal this drain from the bolt! Other areas of importance that the other guys don't do... all the major passages from block to head have a compressable rubber inlay in the OEM gasket...

Note the orange seal around the entire oil feed.... this seal is NOT found in the aftermarket gaskets.... that orange seal is used at other curcial sealing areas in the headgasket....

MLS gaskets.... seal ok... but you can't beat solid copper (imho) No layers to blow through! Solid copper are used on 7000 hp Keith Black Top fuel and Funny car engines... I know no other engine that has quite as high a cylinder pressure as a Top Fuel/Funny Car hemi

    SCE ( http://www.scegasketsonline.com/index.html ) makes solid copper gaskets from .5mm to 2.4mm (.021" to .093")

Good info, However, Top alcohol and Top fuelers copper head gaskets do not need to seal water or oil because they are solid block engines without water jackets or oil pressure fed galleries to cylinder head (bar sainty OHC and a few others). Yes copper gaskets with o rings machined into head/block or receiver grooves or any other method is probably the most affective at sealing combustion chambers, but they are absolutely fucking shithouse at sealing anything else. Plus, how do we know they are affectivly sealing the chambers? Chances are that on those engines they arent sealing properly anyway If they do, they dont last long enough to need to really seal So who really cares what gasket they use.

For a moderately - highly boosted 4a, there is no better alternative to a MLS. Unless you have a grout filled 4a, id advice strongly against a copper item simply for the fact that without a few tubes of threebond 1207b, or white, it wont seal water or oil. Even then copper gaskets are temperamental pieces of shit.

with the copper or steel gaskits, you need to use the proper spray on them, and make sure the block and the head are perfectly flat

me, i run a std 4agze 1.2mm headgasket, always have, car has run 23-25psi most of it's life and NEVER EVER have i had one headgasket problem. they have metal in all the necessary areas. unless you wanna raise the compression up a little, OR it's a race engine and the head comes off a fair bit. then dont bother. plus my latest factory headgasket cost me $55

as for the arp studs, i have not had a problem at all. not even with the CAS hitting, mine is a bigport 4agze motor essentially as well.

the VHT copper spray for copper gaskets is useless. if you dont use threebond or a similar product they simply will not seal.

Hylomar is what I've always recommended to seal the copper....

Surfaces have to be flat, smooth... perfect...

SCE also has some of their gaskets with their integral sealant in the sealing locations.

+1 for the Toyota Genuine gasket. I ran mine on 12 psi for almost a year, not a helluva lot I'll admit but haven't had any issues yet. I'll let you know when I up the boost with the bigger turbo

By the way, I had installed a TRD 0.8mm HG on by Blacktop 20 Valve. The engine has been run for literally about 4 mins like this.

Can I re-use the gasket and whats peoples recommendations?
