no offence intended but sell the 2.7 and buy a 4.0 v6 one it will work out cheaper in the long run and the v6 models go hard.
hi guys
im just new here iv got a 2006 workmate hilux thats just come outa warrenty and i wanna do something to get more out of it. i thought that turboing would work but that it would require major mods to the internals of the engine. if anyone has got any idea about these engines the advice would be greatly appreciated. if turboing would be to hard what would be a good conversion for this car?
cheers

i think the internals on those vvti motors are quite strong, but as 2jzhilux said, the expense will be massive as itll all be custom...and then u need an aftermarket ecu etc, id either buy a v6 model or sell the motor thats in it and put something like a 1jzgte, 2jzgte or 1uzfe in it....this might be an option as the motor thats in it is probly worth a lot of money if u can find someone who wants one...

nope,
2TR-FE vvti
but from all my experiences the short motor may be the same.
bellhousing pattern is same as 3rz
hello
Cheers fellas thanks for the advice. I thought that the general gist of it would be get rid of it and get the six it'll be too hard. That said its not gonna be a rush job got penty a time and another bus to get round in when its off the road and i dont really wanna sell her theres already about 12 g worth of add ons that are a tad hard to get off. But anymore advice would be tops
Maybe buy a wrecked v6 one and do a conversion.
The turbo side would not be the hard part just make a manifold and lines i think the engine management side of things will be the biggest hurdle as the computer wouldnt have the provision/maps for positive pressure from the map sensor
From memory they are also a drive by wire throttle so that may be hard to setup as toyota cant even get it right from factory.
A 1jz /2jz option would be out to if you want it legal maybe a current v8 landcruiser motor.
i recon a 1uz would be a great conversion...

do the 2t, the old 3rz was found out to be a very tuff motor that holds boost well,
theres no reason why you shouldnt be able to do the same with this, i havent read anything bad about these,, but i have only read one turbo article, i'll try and dig up the link if i can find it,
do it!![]()
hey guys cheers for the help. Found a mob in the USA who make piggyback computers, cold air intakes, extractors and currently in the process of sorting out a supercharger kit for em. Turns out that the 2tr-fe is in the 4wd version of the lux over there otherwise known as the tacoma so there are a few parts around for them which i like very much![]()
