Im trying the whiteline ls1 mounts. They are more like a bush. Not sure how they go but saw em ina 1j ra28 build and looked the goods.

Too much excitement over not much i reckon. There's still a ridge of web there and the BH bolted on would do pretty much the same job. Bores will split before the mains fail based on how UZ alloy blocks fails.

At worst if there's a need to be 100% sure then add a crank girdle which in alloy would be a fairly simple exercise.

Its a 1mz mount from the passenger side.. Its not exactly same as the one on my 1mz though so maybe changed over the years.. very similar though.

Wasted most the day with the gearbox xmember, ended up having to start from scratch.

The biggest downfall of using the Y series bellhousing is it puts the gearbox at probably a 10 deg angle. I remember my 3s Y series housing did the same but to only 5 deg or so.
It is now putting too much strain on the rubber mount so I started again with the xmember and made it to suit the angle.

After that was done I started on the engine mounts.. Currently its sitting on them yay! no blocks of wood etc holding this baby up.

Please ignore the dodgy bits of metal under the mounts this was to determine height and location etc.

But I am after some feedback regarding the mounts. I've never used a mount like these whiteline ls1 mounts before and hoping they can accommodate for my crazy angles?

I put a thread in tech section for feedback on it also..

I use that style of mount on the GT8 Joel...made our own though and a tad beefier. I have ALOT more torque than you'll ever have and they are still going strong after 5 yrs.

So you reckon the angles I have em on are ok? In that they don't need to be straight?

won't make any difference for the bush eh being a cylinder. better for the welded mounts if straight? probably, but with good welds it's the bush that should take out vibration etc so should be OK

To me that angle doesn't look ideal, I would be inclined to remake the blocks mounts so the mounts are angled pretty much 90 degrees to where they are at the moment. I'm no engineer but I haven't seen any factory setups with that angle on them.

It's interesting that the engine is canted over a further 5 degees than the inline 4 (or is it more upright normally?).
The V6 & the 3S share the same bellhousing, so maybe it's in interests of making it fit into the engine bay.

Which way is your gearbox tilted relative to the engine?

In terms of the engine mounts, I was thinking they should be vertical, but then there may not be as much resistance to sideways movement.
In terms of the forces, because they're a tube bush I don't think it really matter whether they're inwards or outwards.

Normal rubber mounts both push outwards to deform the mounts. This is harder if they're angled inwards because they need to compress the outside. If they were angled inwards, then the outer side of the mount would be trying to stretch, which is doable with rubber.

However, with your mounts, because they're a rubber tube around a metal sleeve, being angled inwards means that the inboard side of the mounts are being compressed against the sleeve as opposed to the outboard side. Same result either way.

Pick holes in my theory at will.

Yeah regarding the angle of the engine vs gearbox.. I had the same scenario with the 3s, both the 2s and y bellhousings that can be used for the swap put the gearbox on a 5 deg angle relative to the engine.
The gearbox leans over towards the driver.

Pics from todays effort with the sump.. such a hard shape had to fab in a jig saw style..

Not quite finished as you can see but getting close.. not the most beautiful thing in the world either but once its welded up and grinded back and painted i think it'll be half ok.

Can anyone comment on how to make a half decent set of extractors? Length in particular.. Will be 3-1 design.
Just want an idea how long I should keep the pipes before they merge into 1.

    Thanks
