    Default Auto to manual conversion

    Hey guys,
I have a 1976 TA23 with original 1.6L and auto box. The box is on its way out and i want to keep the engine (only for lack of $$ at the moment) and swap it to a manual. What is involved in this and how do i track down a decent box?
    Thanks heaps!

There is a lot of info out there but here goes again
    Flywheel
Clutch and pressure plate including bolts
    Spiggot bearing for the crankshaft
    Manual pedal box
    Clutch cylinder
Slave cylinder and associated pipe work to go from the clutch m/cylinder to the slave/cyl
re join wiring at gearbox to take out neutral safety switch
You may also need a new rear gearbox mount as some models vary
You will also need to enlarge the hole in the floor for the gear lever as it sits in a different spot.
You will also need a rubber boot to cover the hole where the lever pokes thru.
You will also need to look at changing your console.
And probably a few thing I have missed.
It is easily done in a day if you have everything
    Cheers Dave

I haven't done a TA22, but I did recently do my RA28. One thing Dave missed is the engine backing plate has two inspection holes for the Auto. Not much of an issue, and no biggie if you leave them there, but for that factory look, you might want to consider it.

Also, specific to the TA22 is that you need the manual tailshaft (not required in the RA series as they are the same), and there is a small metal bracket which holds your clutch fixed line out from the car's body where it joins the flexible line.

The wiring to the gearbox is easy, the auto has 2 feeds, one for reverse and the other for neutral. The neutral gets looped back on itself, and the reverse is two wires, which have standard bullet fittings on the gearbox's switch.
    Cheers, Owen

Ahh... good pickup. However due to the difference between the output shaft of the T50 and A30, the tailshaft issue remains the same. Just grab one from any RA23, RA28, RA40 or manual RA60/65. The rest of what I posted need not be changed. Dave is correct that the rear engine mount is different, and unfortunately you are going to be purchasing the less common item, so it may set you back an extra 10 squid.
