Default Upgrade twins for a 1JZ-GTE?

G'day guys, just wondering what would be a good twins upgrade or the 1JZ? don't care about manifolds etc, just what would be a good size turbo. Oh and i want twins, i know single is easier/more popular for an upgrade but i don't care lol. I was looking at a couple of t25's that were lyin round and they looked a little bit bigger than the stockies, would they be too small to make good power? i'm thinking around 300, but i don't want to lose response.
    Cheers guys

300 what? Kilowatts or horsepower? There's a bit of a difference there.

Why you insisting on staying with the twins?

you'll lose response, positive pressure from 800rpm doesnt come easy, you need pea shooters.

twins are a waste of time, but ya say you dont care, so HKS T3G's then spend stupid amounts of money getting em rebuilt.

For 300Kw I would be going HKS GT-SS, work perfect on a GTR with great response. Take a deep breath when you start looking at the costs involved though, single is cheaper but I doubt any could match the response of a set of small twins like the GT-SS. For the nay sayers, ask anyone with a GTR and GT-SS turbos fitted how good they are response wise (don't ask about the cost though). My 2c worth.

ok awesome cheers dude, i'v always felt twins would have better response than a single, and i hate lag lol. Do you know what those turbos are like size wise in relation to like a t28?? someone said to disco potatoes might be a good option? also how far does anyone think i'd get with a blower? would an eaton m90 be too big?

Get on "skylinesaustralia" forum, there is lots of info for these turbos on a GTR/RB25, the same will apply to the 1JZ as well. As everyone has/will say, it is the shear cost of doing twins that will be the killer as no other turbos besides the HKS T3 ones are a direct replacement. FYI I think there was a set of T3's for sale on here or cressida.net a while ago by geoff897, maybe see if he has them still as it is the easiest option to take unless you are a fabricator or rob banks for a living.

oh yeah sorry, i forgot to mention, i don't want to use the standard manifolds, i'm gonna make custom ones, i hate the way they blow into each other. so any turbo i don't care, just 2 of them, relatively cheap and ball bearing lol yeah i know i'm dreaming, but as close to that as i can get

Youw ill find a decent GT3067r series turbo with a 0.8 rear housing will actually spool faster than any twin upgrade your looking at . You have to remember , your trying to Single turbo 1.25L of engine with turbos capable of making 300-440hp each ... That my friend = Lag .

We had a guy with the HKS T3G's on a stock engine'd soarer at our Dyno day make 337rwkw @ 24psi on E85 fuel . However full boost didnt happen until 4200-4400rpm .

twins=stupid........my gt3076, .86 rear, with a custom mani is very responsive, plus it isnt choaked at anything over 5000rpm............

you must remeber that in the last 20 yrs since the 1j was released, turbo design has dramatically changed.

When does yours come on boost blake? 5, 10 and 15psi if at all possible, i dare say it would beat the factory twins let alone a larger frame set of turbos like GT25-28's

    Cheers

Fwiw I put a 3076 non roller equivalent turbo on a mates 1J the other week and it sees 10psi of boost @ 2800rpm 15psi @ 3200rpm, but it has a tiny .63 housing on it so it may spool earlier than most.

In05NT thats pretty darn good ! Ive always said if i went single, i would go the 3076r with a decent manifold . It will make 300+rwkw and drive as good as a stocker mated with a small stally.

If thats the case then forget the twins forever, 13psi @3000rpm is impressive, be interesting to see what it tops out at when tuned/injectors etc are done.

Without a tune, my 3582, with ;82 rear see's about 7psi around 3500-4000, but it sees its first 2 or 3 psi by 3400 pretty much, once it starts building, it climbs faster than i can watch pretty much...

I imagine it will make the 15psi within a few hundred rpm... But with a tune, i think it will come down significantly...

3076 is a perfect street turbo for a 1J, and its a great middle ground for solid power and good response...

The 3582 is laggy, but will hopefully make the extra power for drag

    Cheers,
