Not sure on what W5x came in the RT142 as mine was auto.

I do have a W57 that I pulled from a 21R powered RA60 many years ago as I Had aspirations to do similar to my wagon. It has either a forward or mid shifter (please correct me if you know which) and I recall the tailshaft was the same length as ST141 with slightly larger diameter tubes. I'll have to get back to ya on the output splines though.

I am parting the old RT wags, including the brakes mentioned in one of the above posts if anyone is interested.

In My st141 I usted ra60 brakes and possibly struts aswell as afaik they are the same... the use the same spring and strut top,
I also used mx73 lower control arms, steering knuckles, rack ends and tie rods gave me a fair bit more neg camber and track,
ma61 rims look the part and an ra60 w57 with an sa63 bellhousing was used.
My tailshaft became completely rooted ,so i used the one from the ra60 and just redrilled two holes in the diff flange
I could have used the T series from the ra60 as they aere direct bolt in but i decided to keep the disc brake auto csx borg warner in there.
Going from 3.89 up to 4.11 in the diff actually made a noticable difference too.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Thanks Peter that was informative! I'll be using a different diff, but I'm interest to know what caused your tailshaft to fail? Was it fouling on something or what??

With the W57 behind the 2SC, can you recall what parts you yourself used?
As I mentioned before, I'm planning on using an SA63 flywheel and clutch plate...

Let us know about the W5x shifter position that suits ST141 when you can..
    Cheers

tailshaft failed because i improperly changed the uni joint, human error and nothing else
i dare say the sa63 flywheel and clutch will be exactly the same as the st141 one
Both cars had exactly the same engine and floorpan. they are basically the same car apart from obviously the body and the fact the st141 was aussie built
which is why when you get an st141 you need to remove all the borg warner crap and eventually the non crossflow 2sc engine
will post back as soon as i have been under the car but from memory it is the most rear shifter position you will need and your sa63 box should have that.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Most definately the most rear shifter position on the w series box. Iwould keep the sa63 gearbox crossmember also as you will need it too.

Are you able to identify it in this picture Peter? Does it look like the one on the far-right?
    Thanks

Anyone know a part number for the steering shaft universal joints? I'm guessing Toyota will be the only place to get new ones??

I'm putting the adjustable steering column in my ST141 and it turns out the power-steering models use a shorter shaft.
I want to replace the uni joints in the same job, as opposed to old ones from the wreckers.

Cleaned one up and found the needle bearing code: TORR NSK ZY-108 ... not exactly a viable option at $10 a piece but.

    Cheers...

also JKLMATE to kinda answer your question from the previous page, i recently aquired an rt142 SR and the build plate does not specify which gearbox is in it. It is definately a W5x and i can only speculate but wouuld assume its a W55

    Cheers,

Hey, cheers Peter, appreciate your responses.
Yeah, I did find that part number on Toyodiy, but I was wondering if there was a means of just replacing the uni joint as opposed to the entire part? Be it steering shaft or yoke.
I actually need to replace the uni joint on the steering shaft (45210-22050), but it looks like the yoke/part number you gave me would use the same uni joint anyway.

I found a part number & supplier for the needle bearings, but they are pricey and the rubbers on the uni joint have perished anyway - so they wouldn't last long.

Do you mean the whole uni joint with rubbers/bearings? (Do you know a part-number or supplier?)
Or the whole steering shaft/yoke part from Toyota with the uni joint installed?

Either way, it looks like a wild goose chase...

Find an Toyota or aftermarket uni joint, ... or find a steering shaft from an with an adjustable steering column and a manual rack, then rebuild the assembly...

Much more fuss than I ever expected.

I have had three W5x boxes from RT142 Coronas and they have all been W58s assuming the gear ratios on the net are correct.

Out of interest I currently have a low km/good condition granny-spec RT142 Avante (22RE/IRS/auto/ps/cruise/velour/elec mirrors) for sale in Bris [email protected] if anyone was looking.
