    Default 1st Gen Celica Differentials Diagrams (6.38, 6.7, 7.5inch + LSDs)

    Hi,

    I'm on fire tonight.

    This one's for you Norbie....

Along the lines of my "transmissions" thread, here is a similar one, but for the differentials that graced the Celica (and maybe other models) in the early to mid 70s.

Again, I made the images large to make the details more clear.

    Rear Axle Housing

    6.38inch Differential (S Series)

    6.7inch Differential (T Series)

    6.7inch LSD (T Series LSD)

    7.5inch Differential (F Series)

    7.5inch LSD (F Series LSD)

Do you know if the 6.38inch diff is a T Series diff? I'm not sure and maybe you can help out here.

6.38 inch is S Series, also commonly mistaken for LSD when looking at the head as you can't easily see the spider gears. 4 pinion I believe.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the 6.38inch diff was a 'D' series, not an 'S' series...
It was this was on the build plate of the 1971 Celica my Dad used to own.

The D series is different again, much closer to the T series in sizing at 6.62 inch. The heads MAY be interchangeable with the T series similar to the B-X-U code diffs if used with matching axles but have not personally confirmed just heard rumours.

D and T series diff heads are interchangeable. Swapped a T for the original D series into my 71 TA22 about 80,000 miles ago with no problems since.

You've done it again River, nice work champ.

With your permission I'd like to link these images to the Toyota Axle Database. That OK?

the 6.38 is for TE series so te27 levin . .6.7 is for ta ae and st series as well .7.1 series is for mx series cressidas
altezza and ra23 gt celicas all had 7.5 series
8.0 inch were MZ20 and jx00 0 models and vn and js40 series and last were 8.7 inches is the ja80 series supra

    Hi,

Alrighty then.... fixed up the broken image links in this thread.

If you find any other pics of mine missing please PM me and I'll get it sorted. I know there's a few for the 2T-G engine which I'll probably do in the net day or so.

River you are more useful than a swiss army knife. If I ever make it up to Sydney, damn I'm gonna give you a big bear hug.
