    Default Hiace gearbox models

I've searched as much as my crashing POS work computer will allow but no joy hunting up a model number for the 5 speed gearbox that would be found in a 1994 2.8 litre diesel.

    Anyone?

    Hey Justen;

    I cannot find much beyond:

    "hey there

im after some help i want to put a r151 box into my 96 hilux with a 2.8 disesel.
will my g52 bell housing fit onto the r151 box and is there any other things i need to mod as in tailshafts sensors etc
    any info would be great

    thanks
    seb"

which leads me to believe it may be a G52 gearbox.

    Maybe.

    that was found here:

    http://www.perth4x4.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20584

only one dude answers saying to use an R151 from a 2.4 surf.

    edit:

Here is another link to similar discussion; revolving around the R and G gearboxes,

they do say 96 models, but are also referring to the 2.8 diesel so hopefully it helps.

They have to accrew enough for nose reconstructions as well as feeding his mime family. The dont talk much so they never need much water for their dry mouths.

    Thanx Tom.

I was hoping it would be an R151 (G52 is a FWD box??)

    Unsure,

have only just re-read your title and realised you were after the hiace model..

    edit:

if its the model: "3L" hiace, maybe this can help:

Model // Description // part number
    HIACE LH113 // 3L // AC6513

G5x were in the rear wheel drive hiluxes, probably the vans too. They look pretty similar to W5x boxes externally.

I have a G5x box if you need to check anything.

Is there any reason why it wont have it in the build plate like other Toyotas or is it different because its not a passenger car?

Sounds like you want a bolt in propostition with a JZ or UZ if it is a R series box...

Yeah could be the G series or R.....one is ALOT more appealing than the other.

Don't want to err tip my hand so to speak in the haggling so the less questions asked the better.

    It's a 3L (2.8 litre diesel)

It will have a g box.99%sure. When the Hilux got a face lift only the 3l diesel 4wD got an R box .
If the R series gear box came in an everyday 2wd there would be no use for a w58 lol.

The petrol got the W series 4 and 2wd.

    cheers

Thanks Case....that's a bugger as it's not a strong box by all accounts?

I wonder if the shifter linkage would mod over to an R series easy enough?

G5x found in RWD hilux with 3L or 5L diesel motors - in a nutshell, looks like a W5x but has absolutely shithouse ratios.

They can cope with turbo diesels so I would assume they withstand a reasonable amount of torque?

All the forum chatter on these boxes s about broken ones and how to fix or avoid So doesn't look like they do like the torque?

Anyone got a pic (or link) of what the shifter linkages look like in the van version?

I was reading the R151 was a stronger option that bolts on with a bellhousing swap or mod.

R151 is basically a R154 with a ratio change so yup, a heap stronger.

getting the shifter linkage swapped over is my only concern .... i'm not look at running a diesel
