    Default 2jz-gte Oil Pressure Specs

Hi guys, we got my VVTi 2JZ-GTE running on Friday night and it runs like an absolute gem.

I have a question regarding oil pressure as my oil pressure gauge was reading 7 - 8bar at idle when cold.

This seems a bit high to me and after reading Giantomato's post in Southo's oil leak thread i'm not sure what it should be.

    Oil is 10-40.

I also spoke to Shane 'Gasman' 1JZ 747 and his 1JZ runs up to 100psi.

    Cheers

    8 bar is well high

my 7m runs from 57 to 71psi when cold.

I'd check with and search supraforums.com and .com.au to see if they can you.

It should be what I posted at operating temperature. When cold I see very high pressures too.

Thanks Giantomato, what pressure do you see when cold?

It dropped to 6bar once it had been running for a little bit but still, it seems high.

Could the pressure releif valve be stuck shut?

    Cheers

and what a privelege it was for you to talk to me.

mine idles any where between 70 and 100 psi, whats wierd is the pressure doesnt rise very much with revs, ie it might rise 5 psi.

though if i have under filled it it will go backwards under load a lot more than 5psi.

Spoken like a true blow ass.

I have since swapped my oil pressure gauge with a known good one and it still reads 8bar.

About the only other thing that could potentially be an issue is the oil filter i am using. Seeing as i have fitted the sandwich block under the oil filter its added an inch or so lenght which made the Toyota filter foul on the chassis rail. So i searched around for somthing a bit shorter in length and have used a Valvoline V033 filter off a Mazda / Subaru

It too has the pressure relif valve inside just like the Toyota one. Could the smaller filter be causing the pressure buildup?

    Cheers guys

I see over 100 psi when cold. Didn't I put all of this in the other thread? Why another thread about this within a month?

Thanks Gianttomato, i checked with a mate who works at Lexus and he confirmed the 2JZ-GE runs 7psi at idle and 45psi at 3000rpm.

Is it safe to asume the turbo engine would run higher oil pressure to keep the turbos fed all the time? Also a bit higher for the VVT-i?????

I am going to replace the pressure relif valve and hopefully all should be good.

    Thanks for the help guys.

    Cheers

7psi at idle is stupid low. Say hello to delamination of bearings, if not complete seizure.

    Thats what the book says.

Also its amazing how much missinformation is in this industry. Everyone i spoke to has a different answer, and i spoke to alot of people.

The best bit is when i tell them how much oil pressure it has they shit, thats heaps. Then i ask them what it should be they say i don't know.

8 bar = 116.03019 pounds per square inch < bit of a difference.

My IPRA car runs 70psi at idle, and around 85psi at WOT under load.

2JZ-GTE Workshop Manual Oil Pressure specs:-

With engine at normal operating temperature, oil pressure
should be at least 7.1 psi (.5 kg/cm ) at idle and approximately 47-84
    psi (3.3-5.9 kg/cm ) at 3000 RPM.

Just heard from a friend who knows Nero from Titan Motorsport in the USA and he said that anything between 6 - 8bar is fine on 2JZ-GTEs. Aparently there race engines run upt to 10bar. Anymore and there is soemthing wrong.

I'm inclined to go with Titan on this as they clearly know there 2JZ shitz.
