4agze 20v flywheel used Starter motor problems!!

okay, using AE92 4agze, 20v flywheel, AE71 carina box, T50 i assumed.

strater motor just wines now, was cranking, have been told its the bendix housing, but if i replace it will it re do it again???? what have others done..?

I found this somewhere on the interwebs, hope it helps you out!

"one of only two things...
the solenoid doesn't like you anymore, or the starter gear (bendix) can't stand ya either. (ok, loose/corroded/gunked up (technical term) connections might be a problem too)

Fix?
remove starter...
Connect jumper cable from ground side of battery to starter case. Connect one end of jumper cable to positive side of battery, and TOUCH the other end (red, please) to the large post on the starter.
This should fire the starter off, engaging the solenoid, throwing the bendix (starter gear).

IF it does (or doesn't), remove solenoid, emory cloth the cylinder looking piece of the solenoid and the hole it came out of, WD40 the begeebers out of the Bendix, reassemble, retest, If it all seems to work hunky dory, slather some grease on the bendix pay attention to get some on the drive "shaft" of the bendix (the part that slides) replace starter, fire up a cold one and try not to throw your shoulder out of joint patting your own back.
Polish/sandpaper/wirebrush/clean all the terminals while you're at it too.

If not a heck of a lot happens, take the whole sh-bang to a starter shop and have them test it, rebuild it, or buy a rebuilt one."

hey ollie, thanks heaps will try it when she gets bak from exhausts, i read in another site that when you do the conversion (ta22 4agze) i used the 212/2mm ae101 20v flywheel and ae71 carina box that you have to use the 4age starter motor, so hoping that i havent stripped the ring gear =(

was using 4agze starter, that came with engine... untill i had this problem and read further into it =(.... got the 4age ae86 one now..??

yeah the AE86/AE71 starter motor should work.

hey cheers mate, rang australian clutch for quote on ring gear, said they can only do one piece 20v flywheel and ring gear replacement =( any where else commercial who can do ring gears?

How do you know you have damaged the ring gear?

Have you removed the starter motor yet and inspected either? (starter/ring gear)

um, got her back, ring gear fine, put the 86 one in, damaged the key way bit??? jammed the fly wheel lol, is the 20v fly wheel thicker? wtf should i do lol, just space it out?
