Default Longer Wheel Stud solutions - The definitive guide

I know this has been covered a bit, but usally its been covered in a few different places with people linking people everywhere, so i want to gather all the information together here.

Problem Lots of older toyotas have a weeny stud, often only 20mm or 25mm poking through from the hub, which causes issues when you go disc over hub, or even thicker discs, or just want more engagement of thread.
Toyota in their infinite wisdom decided to use a 14.1mm knurl on their studs which makes them quite hard to match.

    Solutions
    • Stock studs on most older Toyos are 90942-02047and approximately 35mm long
    • Simplest solution is the generic late model toyota wheel stud, part number 90942-02049 and is found on many Camrys, Corollas, Cressidas etc etc, the list goes on. This is a reasonable option for early models like A2x Celicas etc, this has around 26mm of thread.
    • Next longest in the range is the 90942-02052 which is a longer stud found on Hiaces, and allows for approximately 31mm of thread to poke through the hub.
    • Longer again is the 90942-02053 which im not sure of the origin, but apparently lets 41mm poke through the back of the hub.
    • Alternately, given that Hiaces dont always find themselves in wreckers that often as they are commonly repaired and keep on going, we find ourselves with the Mitsubishi Econovan, which i believe shares its studs with many Mitsus. The Mitsubishi runs the same TPI as the Toyotas at 12x1.5 and has a very similar knurl, of 14.3mm and is generally accepted as being able to be pressed into the Toyota hubs easily (and ive confirmed this). The Econovan studs are 1mm longer than the Hiace studs and have approximately 32mm of thread showing.
    • If you want to go new the official stud from Nice products is the NS340, which is a standard length, 40mm overall, 27mm thread.
    • Longer than that from Nice products is the NS3400 which is 73mm overall, and presumably 60mm thread. But this is over double the price of the NS340 at trade.
    • ARP do a stud with 100mm of thread, but it ranks in at the most expensive at US$55+shipping for a set of 5 from Summit racing. Good though if you want to run lots of slipons.

Thats about all i can think of for now, but ill leave you with a diagram of the MA61 (standard toyota late model 27mm thread), Hiace and Econovan threads from left to right:

I was recently recommended by Linden (roadrunner) to check out Nice Products for wheel studs..... im bloody glad i did, they have HEAPS of stuff!

    Nice Products.

S340 is the most common wheel stud used in pretty much all RWD toyotas. (NS340 is stud + nut kit).

    See toyota applications here:
    http://www.niceproducts.com.au/catal...uts/Toyota.pdf

Start Browsing the Nice Products Catalogue here:
    http://www.niceproducts.com.au/catal...heel/wheel.php

.... the particular page with the Toyota studs is here:
    http://www.niceproducts.com.au/catal...ds_L/Page6.htm

.... then you find that since Nice Products are so nice, they even list the compatible longer stud as their S3400 (NS3400 stud + nut kit)

    And here it is:

.. yes i noticed that the knurl is 14.3mm instead of the original 14.1mm - but whoopdeedoo, 0.2mm is nothing.

    ...... butt scratcher?!

Nice products have had a fairly hefty price hike recently according to my man at Repco. They used to be about $3 on T8 (trade) for a standard size, and $5.50 for a longer one. They have doubled in the last 3-4 months.

The kicker is that i personally didnt need 73mm studs as for track days i might run boltons on the rear of the Supra so that i can run R32 GTR wheels easily, and 73mm studs dont allow for boltons, hence looking outside the Nice square.

Thanks for the Nice Products picture though, i was searching around for that and couldnt find it. I only had it as part of a PDF and Photoshop wasnt being cooperative.

I'm running S315's on the rear of my Z10.

They appear to be ~9mm longer than stock, and have a non-threaded shank which is perfect for your spacer.

As for ARP, there are a few possible choices

    Lexus IS 300 (100-7715) Knurl - 14.17mm, Length - 66mm, Knurl Length 5.84mm
    EVO VIII (100-7717) Knurl - 14.35mm, Length - 76.2mm, Knurl Length 6.85mm, Nose Length 8.9mm
    Celica GTS (100-7717) Knurl - 14.35mm, Length - 59.5mm, Knurl Length 8.25mm, Nose Length 9.22mm

Comes down to thread length needed (Length - (knurl length+Nose length)) and the length of the knurl.

Seems as if the 90942-02053 studs are from a Landcruiser.

How much difference would 1.2 mm of the Knurl length make?

If I was to use the ARP 100-7717 on my GT4, it has 6.8mm of Knurl length Vs 8mm stock listed y nice products. Is that a problem?

It just seems I can get the ARP stuff for the same price as the nice products ones.

I'm using S3400s on the front of decade, and they've got huuuuuge thread length, was about $40 for 8 when I bought them...that was a while ago though, and if the price has ramped, I wouldn't buy them again...

Good info, I want some slightly longer ones for the rear, don't need the full lenght of the S3400s, so cheers

I have a set of 10 Nice NS3400 studs here which measure in at 54.5mm thread length, knurl looks to be ~14.3mm wide. I got mine at mates-rates about 6 months ago for $7.70 a stud excluding GST.

FYI guys, the NS in NS3400 means Nut and Stud.
You can just buy S3400 which doesn't come with a nut, and should be a couple of dollars cheaper.

Sorry to revive old topic but all these different lengths have me a bit confused
I've got a ae111 and my rear tyres are scrubbing against the struts
Mate at work said best option would be to get longer studs + bigger spacer, i tried toyodiy and the partnumber is 90942‑02047 for the studs
What I don't get is when you say the stock studs on older models are 35mm long and the simplest solution is one from camry's etc which has 26mm of thread? So how much longer is the stud than the 35mm ones?
