Default advantages of using 1.3 radiator cap

    Hi...,

I had just changed my radiator using aluminium radiator. Please tell me what would be the advantages if I use the 1.3 bar radiator cap ?

If it has advantages, i might plan to change my 0.9 bar rad cap to the 1.3 bar cap.
Can anybody out there please advice me on this matter ? Your advice really appreciated.

    Thanks.

Higher pressure means a higher temp before boiling. Obviously tends to lose a bit less coolant at the track as well seeing it'll hold a higher pressure. Boiling point increase is the main purpose though.

Boiling coolant does not absorb transfer heat very well, so if your using your car on the track a radiator cap rated at 1.3 bar than 0.9 bar would be better, as your coolant is less likely to boil, removing heat more efficiently from the engine.

coolant should never, EVER boil.... thats what ethelene glycols main purpose is, anti freeze anti boil

having a cap rated at 0.9bar raises the standard boiling point of water to approx 120 degrees and the ethelene glycol stops it boiling

if your coolant is boiling theres a leak in the system, ie head gasket, split tank or hose, either way the pressure is escaping someone

    Sorry for my poor english.

So are you saying that using the 1.3 bar rad cap would definitely better than using the 0.9 bar rad cap ?? Kindly reply. Thanks.

Of course, seing as how the pressure will be increased, there is more chance of a failure such as a hose blowing off; if your cooling system is about to fail in such a way this will certainly provoke it to do so.

if your not running high boost or your motor has a good condition cooling system then it probly wont even make a noticable difference till you take it to the track and thrash it...

Do you have a water temp gauge?

Take it to the track and see how you go, then you can make decisions to whether you need to change rad caps etc.

Why do they not put 1.3bar caps with fittings and hoses to suit the higher pressure on in the first place? Does it have any disadvantages or problems for a road going car?

just make sure all your hoses are in good condition.
any hoses getting a bit old are likely to burst when you switch the car off and its hot and holding more pressure than normal.

the downside is obviously more pressure before it overflows, which is also a up-side in some ways. just something to be aware of
