nice.
never realised the lsx were that narrow...
Thought I would take the opportunity to put a Holden LSx engine along side a 1UZ.
I have put some dimensions on a few photos so you can see the differences between the two engines. Enjoy

wohooohooo... nice one Jack!
So, on a whole, the Lsx is smaller, more powerful, torquey-er
Runs to hide![]()
Yes it very much seems that way.
Sitting next to each other the 1UZ looks like a monster in size compared to the LS.
And as you said, at least 1.7L more capacity, they weight the same or even a bit lighter pending ancillaries, and so many performance parts readily available.
This LS engine has been in my possession for a while now, also came with a TR6060. Just need to find a suitable donor.
I vote JZA80![]()
oooh...TR6060? That's odd, as they've only just recently been added to HSV's.
Do a google search or Trademe NZ search. There are plenty around already and are going for anywhere between $2k - $4.5k depending on your luck.
I'd love a dual cab ute or space cab to put the LS into for a tow vehicle, but finding a nice roller is easier said than done.
Now THAT's talking!
Only down side with it's capacity is the limited range of cars that can legally use it with these stupid new weight/capacity rules.
There are plenty of cars getting around or in the build that are overcoming the weight restriction. Would love to know how!
Some recent LS conversions I have seen are BMW 320i, GTR Skyline, Series 6 RX7.
For NA, is it 3x multiplier and FI 2x multiplier?
If so, NA would need a car weighing 1900kg and FI would need 2280kg![]()
This would be the result of not having twin camshafts in each head.
I bet the old DOHC LS1 (edit: LT5) in the Corvette was a lot wider.
Can't dispute the grunt argument though. There's enough of TT LSx engines in competition drift cars now because of the grunt & easy parts availability.

The last DOHC was a 5.7?
I know it now has a pushrod 7 litre or something.
GM's engine numbering has always been hard to fathom![]()
The C4 ZR1 had a 5.7L (but a different 5.7L to the GenIII LS1 etc) DOHC LT5 V8, but the only thing it had in common with the rest of the LT series (also known as the GenII) was the bore-spacing, everything else was unique. Heads were designed by Lotus, engine was hand-built by Mercury Marine. Every other Chev V8 has been pushrod, the only other DOHC V8s are Cadillac-designed.
