Default 4AGE Distributor 12-1 trigger wheel setup

I still have the double RPM problem from my MS2 V3 2.883 Code setup. now i m trying to go another route which is built a 12-1 trigger wheel inside the 4AGE distributor.

does any one knows or have an article on how to setup a 12-1 trigger wheel from the 24 tooth for 4AGE? ie which 2 teeth to grind off?

4AGE have 24 teeth with 2 reference teeth im pretty sure (basically a 12-1 setup x2). So you just wire up the cam angle sensor without grinding anything off, then just set the computer to run in V8 mode or something. I cant quite remember but I'm pretty sure there's mays of configuring it to simply wire it straight up. Just go see an installer and see what they say. Thats your best bet

Use a Bigport dizzy and matching igniter, the igniter provides a 12v square wave signal to the MS2 (Wire it up for EDIS input) and you then jumper JS10 to IGN to power the igniter IGT to control the coil. Works fine in my AW11

I ground off two opposing teeth from the 24 tooth wheel (that is 180* apart). My RPM read perfectly up to about 2000rpm. Unfortunately, other issues have hampered my build so I'm changing back to the stock computer.

CHB: change to the 'extra' firmware - it has plenty of options for tooth decoding including dual trigger input.

Lots of reading here <http://www.msextra.com/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_Nippon.htm> for the hardware and tuning side of it.

Also, I'd highly recommend using a dual lm1815 interface so you don't have to chop off any teeth or stuff around adjusting pots to get a good VR signal.

www.jbperf.com (username=racingmini_mtl on msextra.com) has a neat (and small) Dual VR Conditioners Board.

With the dual trigger you have the options of remaining with the dizzi for spark distribution, going waste-spark or (i think) sequential ignition.

    CHB,

Not sure which teeth, does it matter? count 11 teeth grind 1 count another 11 teeth grind 1.

The only thing that may make it a tricky is tooth alignment at top dead centre, and the tooth to trigger on there is a spread sheet that can help with this but I don't have a link handy

If you're going to do it this way, it doesn't really matter which two teeth. You can accomodate the relationship to TDC in the setup. However, Charles has a good point. If you're still setting up, use MS2 Extra with the additional VR input and you can then use an unmodified dissy. I've not done this myself, but it seems like a better option, plus you get the benefits of MS2 extra. I would do it this way if I was doing it again.

i will definitely try the MS2-Extra if this setup is for my car. i'll move to Brisbane mid of Dec. that why i sold my current MS2 setup to my friend. now the time kinda running out and i may have not enough time to try out new things.
let say i really take the MS2extra route the last minute, the distributor i have now has 24 tooth and 4 tooth pick-up VR. will that "Nippon-Denso CAS" rules still apply?

yeah the one indicated in the "Extra-manual" has two upper VR and one lower VR for 24 tooth. the one i have now have only 2 VR sensors, one is upper 4 tooth VR and another one is 24 tooth lower VR

It shouldn't matter. One sensor (NE) is for crank position, and the other sensor (G1 & G-) indicate cam position which is used for cylinder number. So, the combination, irrespective of the number of teeth on the given wheels, will tell the MS when TDC on cylinder 1 occurs.

    CHB,

what setting do you have in your wheel decoder? 12 or 24? being a cam sensor I am guessing it should be 12 even though it has 24 teeth. Regardless of which set up you go the RPM signal will be taken from the 24 tooth wheel I think.
