by the way, i forgot to add
is there anyone in SA who thinks they could come check it out?
Hi,
it was all running, i changed the motor, had it running, found the new motor had a blown headgasket, did the gasket, now not running
as for the loom, no idea, i bought the car already converted...i have a suspicion that its an ADM loom as it was an ADM motor in there before, and it looks like wires have been extended here and there, but dont quote me on that
the heap of wires coming from the positive side of the coil would be there to draw switched power, i mean, the guy who wired it had the fuel pump wired into the coil...fuel pump is now running through a hard-wired switch
ok...now its cooled down abit outside (FINALLY) i jumped out and started tracing the wires back, absolute pain in the ass job as they change colour halfway along the line.
i have worked out 2 of the 3 wires, not including the black with orange trace
1st wire goes to the 14pin plug, it splits into the Black and the Black/White trace
2nd wire goes to the White wire on the C.O.R.
the 3rd is Red/Black trace, it is labelled "ign power" but i cant seem to follow it past where it dissapears into the loom before splitting at the firewall...it doesnt appear to come through the firewall, so i guess it must go to the harness connection mounted on the firewall in the middle.
just looked up the ECU Code, the only hit im getting is that its the stock ECU from a New Zealand AW11, the code is 89661-17060
and now we are back to me being stuck
any help is appreciated

bump,
hard wired power to the coil today...engine starts and runs, did some more investigating and found that the IGN fuse in the KickPanel fusebox isnt getting power...
any suggestions?
I think I may be a little extreme about such things, but I HATE dodgy wiring. It will inevitably come round and bite you on the arse. If it was my car I'd take a weekend with a multimeter and wiring diagram and go through the entire loom to work out how it is setup (this will involve cutting off all/most of the plastic conduiting).
Once you know how everything is wired currently, you may want to change a few things (neaten up how injectors/ignitors/oxy sensor/etc get IGN, check and/or make new earth cables etc) and loom it all back up again. Draw a diagram of how it all works.
Then if you ever have electrical problems again (which is less likely if you take your time and do a good job) then you will have a big headstart on finding and fixing them.

Or just follow the wiring from your IGN fuse back toward the battery and see why it doesn't have power.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
yeh ideally i want to go end up going through and neatening the whole lot up, i too am not a fan of messy wiring...
the fact im not super cluey about electrics does make it abit harder though
i certainly dont want to have the coil hard-wired, i especially dont want the fuel pump hard-wired like it currently is 0.o
If i was you, I would get on Yahoo and pickup the three genuine AE86 looms you need there.
Engine loom, dash loom and headlight charge loom. The loom to the rear of the car you just need to add one wire to.
They come up all the time for cheap, plug them all together and it will be the best money you ever spend.
Seriously, that looks a dogs breakfast, and you will spend far more time and money trying to fix it, and still have problems.
Cam mountain I feel different from the ordinary
yeh in the long run that is definately what i want to do, right now im just a bit tight on money and need to get the car up and running asap
i had a thought just before about a temp fix for both the coil and the fuel pump
run a relay, with output to both the coil and the fuel pump, with a trigger wire spliced off the IGN wire from the key barrel
do you reckon that would be an alright temp fix?
This is what the circuit open relay does - fuel pump, and you can run that to your coil too. The COR is generally triggered initially by ignition switched power (also ECU power) and then by a signal (FC) from the ECU.
Parrot's suggestion is by far the neatest and easiest option. If money is tight though, get yourself a FWD engine loom, a copy of the electrical wiring diagram (Parrot's posted many links to it), and take your time. Strip it all back, dummy fit it, tidy it up and then stick it in. Print a couple of the key pages from the EWD and make notes, and take photos. Some things you'll have to wing a bit as the ADM loom sourced power slightly differently and many pins won't be in the existing plugs, but go slow and you'll figure it out.

AE86 shell - waiting for a donor car from the auctions.
ok...heres some more info....
looking around with my test light i have discovered...
with the key switched to IG, the red path is powered, the blue is unpowered...
i am now lead to believe that its the Ignition Switch itself thats up the creek
ok...
i just swapped the Ignition Switch over...and yes, it was the problem...NOW im really PISSED...
but yeh, Thank you to ALL who offered help and solutions, i REALLY appreciate it
Thanks
