4x4's have a completely different front suspension set-up with the torsion bars working off the top control arm and not the lower control arm like yours,it would be cheaper to start with a 4x4 chassis and make it 2wd.
Hi all
Just wondering if anyone can help me out with the difference between the standard front suspension set up of 2wd and 4wd hilux torsion bar hilux's
I know you can wind up the torsion bars but im assuming that toyota do something more to get the 4wd ride height.
any help would be great.
cheers

Ok cheers
Would it still be possible to wind up my torsions bars 2 inchs?
2 inchs prolly feasible, but have to check such things like flexible brake lines and shocks as they may extend past their working limit, may induce funny angles in the wheel alignment that could wear tyres oddly, guess its suck-it and see. The torsion bars are splined into a bracket thats bolted to the lower control arm and usually have alignment marks as to which spline to line-up with the spline in the control arm for standard height, by adjusting the preload bolts only it may lift 2inches but i doubt it, you may have to rotate the torsion bar a few splines to preload it first and give you another lot of adjustment if you know what i mean.
This will raise it.....

I'm pretty sure that website is the most amazing thing i have ever seen! I've emailed them asking about prices and shipping. failing that i think im going to have to have a long chat with some one at arb.
Does anyone know if you can get anything similar to the chaosfab kits in australia. So far every one i've spoken to says i wont be able to get more than 1 inch of lift out of the front.
why bother? Its not like it will be road legal
All I'm after is 2 inches of lift front and back. I dont see why this wouldn't be legal with the thousands of 4wd's with 4 inch lift kits in them. I understand that the chaos fab kits might not be legal but at least they haven't given me a straight no.
It might be worth contacting one of the companies that make drop spindles for lowering mini trucks and see if they can make some raised spindles.
Snake racing do this kit for late model 2Wd Hiluxes http://store.snakeracing.com.au/~sna...8423b86ad4d5ec
cheers for that.
I've looked at those kits before but mine is a torsion bar front so unfortunately not much use for me. thanks tho.
the torsion bars are usually master splined. (4wd ones anyway.) it is a simple thing to grind off the master spline and turn the torsion bar around to raise it a little more.
i'd be tempted to get under there and give adjustment a go. it will want a wheel alignment afterwards.
so much stuff. so little time.
