Default wolf 3d version 4 ecu question

    Hey all

recently picked up a 180sx with a rb20det which has a wolf 3d ecu and its got a couple of small issues im trying to figure out, the main 2 being when you try to start it hot or cold you have to pump the accelerator to get it to start

The other thing is when it gets to around 86-87 degrees the hand controller temp light flashes (it goes solid when the thermos turn on then off once its back to about 85) and you can hear a tick tick tick noise from the engine bay like a relay is going on and off and then it will stall randomly when idling, ive noticed while the temp light is flashing and you can hear the clicking noise the lights on the various gauges flicker too.

Ive been reading the manual for it but so many different settings i would know where to start to adjust the cold start or anything else.

    thanks in advance

First problem sounds like a tune issue. Cranking fuel or timing (or both) isn't set properly. You can also set up post-start enrichment (from memory) to keep it running once it turns over. I'm afraid I don't have much tuning experience so if it were me I'd take it someone who does.

For the fans, check that the "Thermofan on" temp is a few degrees above the "Thermofan off" temp. Otherwise it'll behave something like you describe. I had mine set at 90 and 85 deg respectively.

    hey hen

i changed the post start enrichment from 10% to 15 and that seemed to help i adjusted it a bit further again seems to start fine on its own now

as for the thermo thing it was set to 85 on both settings lol so did it 85 90 and it works perfectly now

    thanks heaps for the advice

another thing im not sure if this has anything to do with the ecu but when you slow down or come to a halt and put the car into neutral it will stall but seems to stay idling if you keep it in gear and have the clutch in when you stop, weird but could be related to the other issue when it gets warm as it seems to be more common after hitting boost a few times. im gonna try and find a tuner but just seeing if i can save some dollars first

    cheers

Im not sure about Wolf's but there should be a cranking enrichment or an during & after start enrichment.
    Try an extra %25.

Glad you got the fan sorted.

Honestly it sounds like the ECU setup/tune is a little up the creek. If it were me (given my lack of skills at tuning) and I wanted to get the car working nicely I'd take it somewhere to get the tune checked/touched up. If it isn't starting properly and sometimes stalling I wouldn't be too confident that the rest of the map isn't too lean/rich/advanced/generally shit.

i think its running fairly rich, fair bit of black smoke from exhaust on startup...... just looking through the eboost some of the settings go as far as 25psi

next on the list is figuring out why the autometer tacho stopped working this might be a simple solution but the needle is just in a fixed position which you can adjust for the shift light but cant seem to get it back to normal i have a feeling something got pressed accidently on the wolf hand controller as i found it in some rpm settings when i picked it up once and the tacho stopped working after that. just not sure which rpm settings to play with, any ideas?

    thanks guys for the help

    Get a Wolf ECU manual.
You shouldnt be playing with any of it unless you know exactly what you are changing.
If you screw up your tuning maps, youll be up for a dyno tune, or a new engine.

Already have the manual as i stated in my first post, i dont plan on playing with the tune itself im well aware things might go bang if i did lol

just trying to sort out the little issues. which have been sorted now. thanks hen

just tryin to figure out if the autogage tacho is controlled by the ecu aswell and where the settings are

A word of warning I heard from some cuz at Wolf. The internal MAP sensor can't read beyond 22.3psi in WolfPSI mode (or thereabouts, wouldn't swear to that any longer), yet you can still set the boost limit above that value. If your boost control value is over this threshhold then you run into problems since the ECU NEVER thinks you have reached your desired boost no matter how high it spikes.

The manuals are a good start, there's some interesting tech stuff on their site and a phonecall to the guys down at AEM is also helpful if you get stuck on something particular.

new issue now lol car is running like a dog miss firing etc this came up after i fixed an issue with an accessory wire than ran the autogage, stereo, neons and etc it was getting no power so i wired em up to another one as i could only trace it back so far.

afterwards i started the car and it was just spluttering and wouldnt idle etc. so i took it for a drive as it seem to be alright under load and after a while it came good. so now after adjust the front body kit i go to start it and same issue only seems worse though, backfiring etc i had a look at the wolf manual and the hand controller the only thing i could notice was the oxygen sensor was reading 0.01 and when you switch the the view that has load rpm oxy with the moving bars the oxy bar is just not moving at all even when the car is running.

thing is i cant find the oxygen sensor on this thing anywhere its not behind the turbo or anywhere along the exhaust.

    any ideas?

its most probably not there at all. the wolf only uses the oxy under coast conditions anyway.
its either your fuel map, or something to do with the cold/warm start enrichments, or shoty wiring so its not getting good signal form the cas.

    my thoughts anyway,

    Mike

edit: iv attached the wolf shipping map for a r32 gtst could be of help. make sure that you rename the file to .wmf before opening.
