    Default Hilux Rn25/40 Diff

Can anybody tell me if there is a good quality aftermarket LSD that is designed for motorsport use that fits the diff on either an RN25 or RN40 diff???

I have heard about KAZZ but they dont specifically do a unit although have one that works with a minor modification.

Any other brands? Prefer clutch plate type.

I've got a truetrac (not clutch) in my hilux diff and it is faultless and highly recommended.

There are plenty of 4WD stlye lockers too, but I don't know of any clutch style centers for the hilux off the top of my head.

What do you mean by modification? mine went straight in but you may need a small spacer depending on which offset housing you run.

Bearings are the same and the R&P bolt straight up.

I had a reply from Meridian Motorsports that said the following.....

"Although there isn’t a listed LSD to fit the Hilux from KAAZ , we have come up with a unit that will fit but might result in different carrier bearings. The only other modification is to run a 4mm spacer between the crownwheel and the LSD and then some longer bolts.

Cost of the KAAZ LSD unit to suit your application is $ 1827 inc.

We can only supply you with the LSD centre, you will need to source the other items and modifications."

Not sure I understand what carrier bearings are. I don't want to have to fark around...I want something bolt in preferably with no mods (spacers and bearings etc).

Every lsd center I have seen for a Toyota 8 inch application (Hilux, Supra....) needs a spacer to go in the early RN2_/RN4_ diffs, it's kind of the trade-off for not having to get them narrowed. You could get a later model carrier which wouldn't need the spacer.

Does anybody know where to purchase the required spacer????

Has anybody got an pics of a toyota diff exploded so that I can actually understand what all these bits are (carriers, the bearings, where the spacer would go)?

Sorry to sound like a moron but to spend $1800 on a KAZZ LSD not knowing every details would be stupid of me.

You need to have a specialist diff shop build it up for you.
Rebuilding diffs is not a backyard job!

Boss Automotive at Lonsdale are good.
He did my RN25 conversion (mounts & torsen center) for me.

Firstly $1800 is kinda up the arse for something that could be purchased for $1400 elsewhere, so i suggest hunting around more.

Secondly, i pulled my LSD out of a MZ20/A70 housing and it bolted straight into my 4.875 Surf/Hilux carrier with no spacers what so ever but as i stated earlier it depends on what housing and gears you choose to run .

Do you know what gears are in your current housing and if so are they the ones you plan to run?

As per what MWP said if you are unsure of what carrier bearings are i definately would NOT be trying to set the diff up yourself, i don't even play with them as its cheaper to pay someone who does it every day of the week to do it right the first time than risk f#@king it up to save a couple of $$$.

    Cheers

Thanks Roadrunner. I will hunt around for a better price on the KAZZ and I will definitely be taking it to a specialist for setup.

I have not bought the RN40 axle assembly yet and do not know what gearing I will require - will have to run some numbers through tone of the gear calc programs.

If you haven't bought it yet, then get one of the later hilux diff (rn56 or similar). I believe they are only 20mm wider then the rn40 item and any lsd's will slot in without the spacer

Cheers Old School. Not sure if I can accommodate the xtra width. The RN25 is the same width as an Escort, the RN40's extra width is taken up by the arches I am putting on the Escort but I am not sure if the extra extra 20mm can be allowed for via rim offset.

Does anybody know the exact width of this RN56 diff housing from axle flange to flange???

Also, does if have the same 5 stud pattern? Same axle diameter as the RN40 (huge!!)? Anybody know teh weight differences between the three?

    Thanks to all...........
