Default How to replace rear wheel bearings in AE101 Corolla?

Ok, my rear wheel bearings seem to be a little noisy, so I want to replace them to be sure.

What's the go with this? It's easy on my brothers Sera, it's the Same as the starlet where you pull the disc rotor off and the bearings sit on the stub axle, but the Corolla has the hub assembly which comes off in one piece.

Is it just a matter of pressing out the old bearings or what? Anyone done this before?

Once you pull the hub off (4 bolts) theres a big nut you have to undo to remove the stub axle, and then you can press out the old sealed bearing.
3TGTE might be old but it can still hammer along.

Sweet. I thought that may be the case. It it just one bearing?

Is the bearing something I can get from Timken, or is it a Toyota thing? (the Sera has two bearings per side, one is a common part, the other is Toyota only. Go figure.....)

Im not sure if its one bearing but would be available through other outlets, you would not have to pay genuine prices.

Toyota sells the bearings and hub as one complete sealed unit ready to bolt in, genuine price not pretty when I got some for my wife's AE102 (2006 pricing was either $350 or $550 IIRC for one side only), I got lucky though and got some on an ebay auction from a dealer clearing some parts...

Hopefully someone sells them aftermarket now, or just hunt for some decent ones at the wreckers...

I got a spare AE101 Levin in the back yard, so I'll probably pull the hubs out of that to get rebuilt (I have access to a press, so it shouldn't be too hard), then swap the ones in my current AE101 Levin over.

Looks like Genuine comes as a part without the wheel hub as well... keep in mind that this is one for an AE102 1.8, and I have been told that parts may be different...

a lot less than I was quoted when I got mine, but it is an auction...

This might be more what you are after though... same seller...

That will fit, problem is, mine is an import with ABS.....

I'll have to check cross compatibility first.

Some local models have ABS, so might be able to swap over with those.
