yes just bridge te1 and e1 in the diagnostic plug
the missus starlet is pinging its head off regrdless of fuel/load. do i need to bridge any of the diagnostic ports to adjust/check base timing on a 4efe in EP91?
Ill be doing the timing belt soon as well so ill check if its jumped a tooth but want to check this in the mean time.

thats what i thought. thanks mate
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to 2jzhilux again
if it still is pinging throw some subaru upper cyl cleaner down it.. could have some carbon build up on the crowns or valve's..
did that the day i bought it, but thanks.
just an update for anyone interested.
i did the timing belt and was still pinging. pulled it apart agian to double check timing - all perfect but still pinged
Rechecked timing, checked for codes etc etc - all ok but still pinged
Ran 2 full tanks of 98 through it - still pinged.
Put another can of subi cleaner through - runs like a dream
the last 10,000km of 2 hour a day peak hour traffic had obviously taken its toll and huge carbon deposits must have formed and 1 can of subi spray wasnt enough to clear it all. All good now however, i will probably be making up an exhaust and putting a new 02 sensor and possibly cat to try and keep this from happening. Once a week 'hot laps' i dont think are going to be enough
So after sitting in traffic yesterday for 2.5 hours the motor has decided to start pinging again. Ill chuck another can of subie cleaner through but obviously there is something else going on here. I need to prevent not remedy this every time.
I think i'll bodge up a catch can to see what the blowby is like over a week and see if there is an issue there. I'll clean the PCV valve out also (might be sticking once hot?)
Also had a thought that maybe there is an issue with the coolant temp sensor as it only happens once hot. Maybe sensor giving incorrect readings, thus advanced timing?
TPS: It only happens in certain parts of the rev range so possibly out of adjustment. Anyone know the specs or adjustment routine for these?
So did you ever find out what it was? Mine is starting to piss me off bigtime...
i did not. no longer with this chick so it doesnt bother me! It could just be an inherent problem with the motors. Try running E10 or something. The ethanol might keep some of the pinging at bay and clean the whole lot out.
