    thread bump...

i would like to do similar to the OP. the jza90 r154 remote shifter is too far back for my application. i don't want to modify the gearstick to get it in the right position, i would rather remove the additional linkage in the remote setup by swapping to a 'non-remote' shifter assembly.

i'm a noob to all things toyota but i managed to find the following online:

    identical to what i currently have - JZZ30 Soarer ('9405-   )

what i would like - either JZZ30 Soarer ('9105-'9401) [pictured] or Supra ('8808-'9305) [similar except gear stick is about 1" further forward]

is it a matter of swapping red parts with green parts?

what has got me really worried is that the 'GEAR SHIFT FORK & LEVER SHAFT' parts internal to the gearbox look totally different between the two different types of r154 pictured - so the different shifters may not be a straight swap.

    any help will be apprecited...

    thanks

I have looked into this also, as i have a jzx90 r154 and wanted to swap to normal shifter. From what I've read and the pictures above, you have to swap the entire rear section of the box.

I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of swapping the items that 'crack' has shown in red to go from remote to non-remote when starting with JZX90 / JZZ30 remote shifter (FYI the shifter on JZX110 R154 is different).

If you want to go from non-remote to remote then you need to make sure that your rear housing has the provisions for the remote shifter to bolt to (some of the early R154 don't have the bosses, and if they do, they may not be tapped for the bolts, but that is quite easily fixed). Also need to keep in mind that some of the early R154 don't have the provision / extra bolt holes for the later style gearbox mount.

FYI I went from JZA70 to JZX110 and that IS different - where the upper alloy section bolts onto the R154 is different in JZX110 R154
