    Question AE95 w 4AFZE????

This is still VERY early in the planning stages, but I have a 1989 AE95 sedan, her name is Grunt

She is my daily now...... BUT........ Grunt DOES need more low end... I had thoughts of stroking her... I had thoughts of going the 7AFE route.... I had even thought about going with a small turbo (kit @ vivid racing for 92-97 4afe might be easily adaptable to earlier 4AFE)

Then a friend sent me the following photo.....

I liked what I saw, and then remembered the vacuum actuator tank for the All-Trac resides in the same location as the supercharger.....

Might an electric solenoid be installed in place of the vacuum tank, and allow me to shorten the actuator rod??? All of this so I can fit the SC12........????????

This all depends if you want it pernament 4wd or you would like the option of 2wd / 4wd.

Firstly, I have heard that st185 gt4 gearbox internals can be used to strengthen the AE95's system.

Secondly, You can remove the vacuum control unit and either A - use a lock bar so that your 4wd is constant or B this seems to be easy and cheap and reliable, use 2 central locking solenoids on a 3mm sheet of alloy, create the plate to sit flush with both solenoids on it and have some overhang to "fold" & "bend" it for heat proofing and extra water proofing.

    Hope that helped a bit

    WOWZA!!

One idea with that motor, i think the crank pulley needs to be at least a proper 4agze pulley that 4age harmonic balancer would probably only push out 4PSI possibly less, or even better a 175mm cusco or the likes.

Also "secondly" above seems like a good route for you.

I'm suprised someone actually put a supercharger on a 4afe - that'd be a bit rough on the engine wouldn't it?

    Also re: 'Grunt'

Just curious: Are those wheels the same as the AE954wdWagon & if so... What sort of tyres are you running? - They look like all terrains. If they are I'd be very interested to know their specs.

    Thanks

tires are very crappy old snow tires, they have been discarded for AW11 triangles, and Bridgestone RE960 A/S

Btw... gearbox is an "E" series gearbox so does it need much strength considering the E box was used behind the other supercharged cars.....

How exactly was the supercharger set up on the FE? Been thinking about possibly supercharging the 7A at some stage instead of putting a 20V head on it, for something different. Wouldn't have to worry about the Alltrac either, being FWD

Yeah.. I'm definitely looking for snow tyres..... So do you know if the wheels are the same as the AE95 & can you remember what the specs were for the crappy snow tyres???

Finding it had to find all terrain or snow tyres for the factory wheels

I thought the early 4AF engines were the less desireable one....????

The photo I show with the s/c and the AF engine is not my set up...... it was a photo sent on to me showing the s/c attached to an F headed A engine

That one has the good inlet ports. The exhaust ports still need a lot of work to be really good though, like all F heads.
