Default 1GGTE dump pipe and flexible connection.

    Hey.

Took the 1G out of my supra half cut over the easter wkend, and found that the flexible joint on the exhaust pipe, near where it connects to the turbo was split.

Are these flexible joints welded into the whole assemble or are they just sleeved in? Are they just universal exhaust components or would i have to get a specific toyota replacement?

The 1G is going in an RA28, if anybody wants to add their 2 cents on alternative set up please feel free.

    Thanks.
    Tom

I gather your putting it in with the standard turbos?

When I had my exhaust system made up, they said that it would need a piece of flex pipe along the way, but as it turned out, I didn't.

So, i'd say you don't need it, and just get the exhaust done custom and they'll make it to suit.

Definately don't go to toyota for a replacement.

If you do decide to put some flexiable stuff in have a look at truck places for well priced stuff.

    Thanks.

Yeah, its going in with the standard turbos.

I thought that if i was going to have an exhaust made up anyway, i might as well get them to make up a new section. There is a section of that engine pipe which is flattened out for a clearance issue on the supra which i don't like the look of anyway. Thanks mate.

Yep, exactly. Don't use that flattened out crap. I'm sure it works fine and all, BUT there's no need for it in your '28

I did not use a flexable pipe on my 23 and encountered no problems. In fact I gave the front pipe and including a 2.5 inch cat converter to Charles Landwehr when I upgrade to a large single turbo. Charles has it up for sale. He can be contact on: [email protected]

It was mandrel bend and in perfect condition.

I had no flexi pipe on my 1g celica conversion, ran 2 1/2" mandrel all the way through, one muffler at rear...smooth as and no vibrations through the car at all.... you could balance a cigarette lighter on the engine at idle and not fall off... even rev a bit...

To be honest, i havn't really given too much thought to what sort or size of exhaust i will run.
Im more concerned at the moment with the installation and getting all the wiring sorted and getting the engine running!

Im sure some of the other 1G owners will be able to shed some light on what has worked for them. I have sourced a one peice custom mandrel dump pipe without a flex section and without that ugly flattened out area to affect flow. Should be a winner!

If you don't do anything else, at least make sure the dump is 3" with a 3" cat. What you choose after that is less important (I went 2.5") but that area is the important bit.

i was so poor when i did my conversion that ended up raiding the exaust shp bin for 2.5" pieces.

i got a whole heap of random press bends....cant be the best for flow but that was all i could afford to do at the time. still holding together fine though .

im just running a 2.5" falcoon/commowhore cat converter
