    Default Which oil for 1JZvvt-i/R154/JZX100?

    Hey guys,

proud new owner of a manual JZX100 and im not sure what engine oil/filter i should be running when i go to change them.
I have searched net but alas my searching skills are not as hot as they used to be..

Can fellow 1JZ owners enlighten me on what they run and the filter type? There is a sticker just under teh dash which says 10W-30 but im not sure if this is more suited to Japan's climate?

It is just over 110k km and no major engine mods/bolt-on's. Exhaust, pod filter, coilovers.
    R154.
    Daily-driven.

I am thinking Toyota genuine oil/filter.. opinions?

Also, would be nice to know what the R154 and diff uses? And if there's a type of coolant suited to this motor over others?

    Thanks a lot

    G

G drop into your local Toyota dealer and pick up a genuine filter and some Toyota oil. 10W30 is correct for the VVTi engine, any thicker and the VVTi system will suffer. Also have a good look through the oil section in the local parts store, and consider using a synthetic oil with the the same weight. The synthetic oils are less likek\ly to "crack" at high temperatures, not leaving heavy deposits around the turbo bearings.

Diff and gearbox, use 85 grade in the box, and the same grade in the diff, just make sure you use LSD oil, if you have an LSD. Lotsa service centres do not have 85, and will fill your box with 90, which will cause stiffness in the gears, and gnashing of the synchro's.

Again check out your local parts store, or even go online for a search, now you know what grades you are looking at.

    cheers Chuck.

i just use a ryco oil filter, lots of other jzx guys do aswell, theyve never failed me and they get swapped every 5/10k kms anyway.
I use motul turbolite, not the cheapest but not the most expensive. Ive done track days on it and have never had any dramas.
Chuck is spot on with the transmission and diff. I just changed my diff oil today actually. The genuine toyota stuff for the transmission isnt bad but if u can afford to get teh redline stuff, heard it works wonders.

my 2jz-gte vvti lives on Elf 5w30, but it's got less kms than yours, so going up to the 10w30 is probably a good starting point.

Coolant - toyota long life all the way (if there's any other type of coolant in there at the moment, make sure you flush the coolant system well)

gbox/diff - I like redline/royal purple.... with an expensive-ish gbox/diff, and only changing it every few years, pays to invest a little more imho.

ps: Elf for your oil is an expensive option also. Penrite is an option that has served me well in the past.

Cool thanks for the help guy's,
i think i'll go for the toyota 10W30 oil&filter for my first service but its good to know you guys use aftermarket stuff with good results.
The coolant in there is Red which ive been told is the toyota coolant.

    Cheers
