Default fixing a thermofan to a radiator - Ziptie thingies?

I need to fix my thermo fans to my radiator.

And last time i did this, I used some 'zip tie' looking thingies, but I've got NO idea what they're called and where to purchase them from.

Anyone got any ideas on what they might be, and/or what other people have used to fix thermo fans to radiators?

    Thanks in advance.

They are normally classed as oil cooler mounting kit.Davies Carig make them aswell(part no 0579) as well as another brand but cant remeber their name(its a clear pack with a yellow card stappled to the top.)

Just dont use the metal thread style ones as the have a habit of acting like a hacksaw on the tubes.

I have always used these in my cars and never had this happen. I can see how in would happen if you did it dodgy though......

Ain't got space for a shroud..

Hardly got space for a thermofan if I'm honest.

And by ripco, I assume you mean repco?

We dont' have any of those other stores over here.

I'd agree with Repco being Ripco. We do have Covs (Coventrys) here, but they are called Bursons in Vic.

With a shroud, it should be no taller than the thermo itself, but will make a huge difference to just a thermo by itself. As River will attest to, he ran just a thermo and was constantly overheating until he ran a shroud with it.

Bursons. Yeah, I have one of them new here. I think I'll hit them both up tomorrow and see what i can find.

As for a shroud - It simply ain't going to happen. I will however have two thermo fans on it, so with a bit of luck that will make a difference.

If you can find some (or the kit doesn't includes some), some very soft sticky-backed foam rubber on the side of the mounting plates that sit up against the radiator.

They sometimes only come with fibre-washers so even if the zip-tie is done up tight, they can move about a bit either mashing up more fins than ideal, or rubbing on the core/tube.

A tiny amount of padding helps stop them vibrating.

It's finding those 'big headed' cable ties that's the problem mate! :-)

I had the shroud, but the fan was placed inside it a bit, and not at the optimum position - which is at the end of the shroud (ie closest to the engine).

A larger fan, mounted in the sweet spot of the shroud curtailed my overheating issues.

Dat's right, you went bigger... It was Matty 1J that made a new shroud...

Strad, below is what I was thinking for shroud, if the fan will fit, then shroud will as it's thinner than the fan.

    strad:

call any electrical wholesaler and give them this part #: T&BTY5275MX

they are 450mm long and should have a pretty big head. if not enough then try 5277MX they are 617mm long
