The 124 is different mate. That's a dumb igniter used with computer controlled ignition.

You need bosch 9222067021 or bosch 9222067024.

Thanks 7M, it was all I could find other that than the one hit I got at $57. I guess I'll need to ask them how much to ship then make a decision of the BIM024 or the US close 2nd of ACDelco or NAPA. I thought I was there as the "dumb" one cost more than what I wanted!

MSD and Petronix also do them although I guess they are re labeled ex pick one of the above manufactures.

    wireing details

Here is how to wire it up. The four HEI module terminals are labeled W, G, B and C.

W = positive lead (+) from the pickup
G = negative lead (-) from the pickup
C = negative side (-) of the coil
B = positive side (+) of the coil

Finding the Bosch stuff is frustrating. I Did try to hook up with Repco as OldCorollas had suggested, but couldn't find the bosch moduel there and the link to the Texasperformance sight just wouldn't hook up. However the alternative list he provided got me into the Jegs sight, and their ACDelco equivalent is good to way more RPM that I'll use (9000RPM) and the price at around $40 looks good. Here is the link if interested:

I then started shopping for plug wires. Found a set for a 88-92 Supra that looks to have the right plug seals, but to tell the truth have no idea if these will work. So I'll tap into the great brain trust to find out what's working for other members when I get the controller and the HEI coil (hopefully the Bosch HEC716 or equivalent) and have all that extra energy I'll need to control. Here was what I found:

you don't actually ned plug seals, it just helsp keep crud out of the spark plug tubes.
you could cut a hole in some rubber grommets i suppose

re coil.. basically any coil that is designed for electronic ignition will work

So here's the latest. Went to the yard today with the intention of scoring a GM controller ( 4 tabs like the bosch). Unfortunately everything I could find had a lot more electrical connectors. So figured on the way home I'd stop by the local AutoZone and see if they had any spark plug wires. All the wires that are the HEI type I want, seem to have the connection for the male type dizzys. So is there a dizzy cap with the male connector that would fit? I'm guessing this will be NO, so are there adaptors you can put into the female dizzy socket, and make it into a male? I did couple google searches and couldn't find anything. Would seem pretty simple to make a brass adaptor that would snap into the female socket and be long enough to make it a male. I have access to the material and a lath so could make my own, but I'm sure a 1000 people before me have gone down this path before, of HOW DO YOU ADAPT A STOCK DIZZY CAP TO 8mm WIRES FOR HEI?

While at the local parts shop I also bought an ACCEL igniter (GM 4 connector type) and an MSD TFI coil. This is a mix of GM and Ford, so who knows. I had read good things on the TFI type coils so figured I'd try (it also had just 2 connections like the old coil). I'd hoped the installation instructions would state which was the plus and minus terminals, but it doesn't. So does anyone know? Does it even matter? I guess I can write MSD if I need to.

So a couple of questions, all help is appreciated as I know there is a lot of knowledge and talent out there!

why do you need special wires for HEI? just the usual 8mm silicon ones would be fine

you should be abl to order standard 8mm silicon leads for a xK motor from your local shop..
there is no need for fancy spiral wound crap .. unless you want to prevent radio use..

I'm still relatively new to the forum, so I'm not sure this is the best way to post a photo. Probably a link would be better. However here is a pic of the finished project.

The ignitor that requires a heat sink is mounted on an old pentium processor heat sink. MAJOR over kill, but it works, and looks good!

Thanks, you played a big part in making it reality! It now starts better and runs just a bit noticable smoother. I can't wait to see how this works out on the next road trip!

Road trip report: I'm LOVING this conversion. The idle especially when cold is significantly better, and yes, I can feel a difference in the over all "pull" of the engine. The wife and I went to the coast (Bodega Bay, remember I'm a Yank ha ha) to our favorite seafood restaurant for BBQ oysters. Ran perfect he whole trip. I didn't replace the plug wires yet (currently the dry season here in California), but might by this winter when things get damp here. I did have to replace the coil lead as the coil has the new style (male fitting on coil). Pulled that from some Ford that had just gotten new 8mm wires. While I was looking around I noted that Ford was the only company that consistently ran 8mm wires, the rest of the OEMs 7mm. So does Ford use better quality to start with, or is the spark hotter and they have to?

A big THANKS to all that helped me do this with special thanks to 7M and oldcorollas!

i don't think it matters so much. the extra thickness was originally just to stop cross-fire on V8's where the wires crossed over.

modern materials are better than the old stuff, so 7mm is probably fine too, if you don't tape them together or anything
