coils CAS TPS injectors etc are all the same...
but as to what the loom is exactly interfacting im not quite with you on that one...
G'day all,
Done a bit of searching and didnt find a definitive answer.
Im putting a 1st Gen 1JZ into an E36 BMW and will be getting a wiring loom from a company that will interface the standard BMW multi-pin ecu plug to the 1JZ ecu, which is a quick and easy way to do it, but before i spend the $650 USD on this loom, i would like to know if a 2JZ ecu option might be better, being a lot newer and having more aftermarket support for things like PowerFC's etc. Im sure ive heard of it being done?
I would like to keep it running a factory computer, as it will be a daily driver and dont really want to spend the time and money buying/tuning a standalone ecu, at this stage anyway.
So is this a done thing? If so, whats required? Do i need to run the full compliment of 2JZ ancillaries, like coils, CAS, TPS etc?
Cheers guys

Hmm interesting....
The loom is from a company called K's conversions, basically a plug and play loom that fits into the BMW multipin bosh female ecu plug, then into the 1JZ ecu, taking care of 80% of the wiring.
I made the mistake once on another car of ordering an aftermarket ecu that was set up to use the ancient 80's technology of the era (distributor, single coil etc), however if i had done more reasearch, i would have discovered that the later model technology would have fitted (CAS, individual coils, etc) and been much more reliable, let alone smoother and likely more powerful.
So my thoughts are, if the 2J ECU will work to run a 1J, then thats the way to go.
so basically your buying a plug and play harness to essentially use the 1jz ecu rather than the bmw one?...
To me it sounds like you have it a bit wrong
the 1jz ecu should have an engine loom attached to it that then plugs into all your injectors coils ignitor CASs etc
on that same loom near the ecu there should be spare plugs that used to join it to the original cars dash loom...
what you need is something that joins your bmw dash loom to those spare plugs so that things like temp gauges etc will work and the ecu gets power and coils injectors ignitor etc get power...
that being said i dont know if the gauges will work as the sensor might be different in which case you would need to change over sensors to standard bmw ones so that dash lights etc will work...
unless i have what you are doing comepletly wrong in my mind
do you have a link to the loom thing you want to buy...
Yeah, sorry to clarify, it uses half a 1JZ loom and half a BMW loom. Ive contacted them and this was part of the response
Custom wiring harness premated to the BMW harness (this will be made to
simply plug into your fuse box and into your mail loom where the engine loom
that goes to your existing ECU goes for a simple plug and play install)
And goes on to say...
And if you want the wiring I can mate the two harnesses for 450USD if you
send me your 1JZ harness and BMW multi plug, otherwise I can supply all
harnesses for 650USD.

This vid shows a 2JZ loom, which will be pretty similiar i'd imagine.

Personally I don't see the point?
The 1JZ has things like coilpacks yadda yadda, I dont see how having a 2JZ one would make that much of a difference. Sure its newer, but wasn't most of the same tech also available on the 1JZ? Eg. VVTi (depending on year, for both).
I think you'll just end up making more work for yourself getting the 2JZ ECU to work with all the 1JZ bits.

Fair call mate, thats basically all i wanted to know.
If there were no significant advancements then it wouldnt be worth the time, but like i said previously, id made the mistake before and dont want to again.
Cheers
There is no reason to use the 2JZ ECU over the 1JZ ECU on a 1JZ, and many reasons to use the 1JZ ecu on the 1JZ
Also make sure you let them know which 1JZ ECU you have, as JZA70 has different ECU plugs to JZZ30 for example.
Cheers
Wilbo
While I don't know if its common place to put a 2JZ ecu on a 1JZ, using a 1JZ ecu on a 2JZ has been done a few times.
Mainly for guys with JZZ30's who upgrade to 2JZ, they just reuse their existing loom/ecu.
