4agze flywheel size ?

I have a 1988 jap imported mr2 with original gze engine and e58 lsd g/box. I also have an
AE101 2nd gen front wheel drive g/box with lsd spare. I need to buy a light flywheel and clutch assy but am not sure if the AE101 flywheel would be the same size as the one on the car to use as a size guide as i bileve there are 2 diffrent sizes.


Any ideas how to find out the dia of the one on the mr2 gze e58 g/box ? as obviously the linkages on this are round the correct way for this car and i would rather keep using this box.

Have you got a e51 or a e58 in your aw11. I believe it is 225mm.

200mm for first gen 4ag, 212mm for smLlports and then 225mm. (don't quote me)

There is a 230mm one.....i guess this may be the 225mm one.

The gze has raised section where the clutch cover bolts to unlike the other 4age NA ones i have seen which are all on the same plane.

it's definatly got lsd so i presume it's an e58.It has however the aluminium cover for 5th gear and not the tin metal cover like the AE101 g/box i have spare.

Not sure but if i give the local toyota dealer the chassis # will he be able to tell me the size ?,

Just dont want to remove the g/gox on the car just now to get the flywheel size.

just not sure if both the ae101 and this import aw11 flywheels are the same size.they both have the hole for the starter motor on both sides and same type of speedo sender. I have had the drive shafts swapped for the thicker ones than it came with and did look inside the diff, there is no hex crosss shaft in there but i have had a burn out in it and both wheels drive.Also if you jack it up and turn one wheel ,the other turns the same way.

Like i said i want to use the g/box on the car rather than the ae101 spare i have cuz the linkages are around the right way.Just not sure if both the ae101 and this aw11 g/boxes have the same dia flywheel/bellhousing

one other thing i forgot to ask is where do you measure from for these sizes ?

outside the ring gear teeth or outer dia of where the clutch plate makes contact.

Just for reference if it's in a aw11 it is a e51. They come optioned LSD from factory. Unless someone has put a e58 in it and swappedthe sides of the gear shift linkages.

I was not aware of this model until i just did some searching on it.

If you are buying both flywheel and clutch then it doesn't matter what is currently on your motor.

Buy either a 225mm fly and clutch or a 230mm fly and clutch and bolt them up. Both of them match the crank and the gearbox input splines.

I'm not sure how available lightened flywheels are for the GZE. However if required you could downgrade to a 212mm fly and clutch just so a light flywheel is easy to find.
