    Default Toyota Soarer Sound Systems

    Toyota Soarer Stereo Systems

Installing a Toyota Soarer 8/12 disc stacker into an Aristo JZS147

    Introduction

This writeup comes about from my idea of fitting a Soarer 8/12 CD Stacker to my Aristo, since the Aristo came with an excellent stereo but no stacker. I have been running an aftermarket system consisting of JVC DVD player, JAYCAR TFT video screen, JBL 6 channel amp, and a 1 Farad capacitor in a custom enclosure in the boot. However, I’ve had to discard this setup as it was not possible to easily access the spare tyre with the system in place. So its back to the stock setup.

I decided to have a go at this mainly because there were several donor Soarers out at the wreckers. I grabbed my first system from a car that had a SAT/NAV setup. After eventually finding some electrical schematics I downloaded and printed them out on some A3 paper in HiRes. It was then that I realised I needed a whole bunch of wiring, as well as the console RADIO button, the two antennas and the sub-woofer amp sitting under the rear parcel shelf (I was curious about that little unit when I first looked in the back of the Soarer!)

I also grabbed another set of schematics, these ones annotated by Jeff Harper

    Here are the details

The stacker is located in the boot, on the driver's side.

Soarers from 1994 on had the sub amp integrated in the main unit which makes for an easier install, i have a couple of these (and the separate sub amp too) if anyone wants one

Correct. However, I'm wanting to keep my system intact, mainly because the head unit fits into the space neatly (it's slanted on the right side).

Does anyone have the specifications for the units - head unit, sub amp, amp (power figs), etc or know where I can find them. I have the Toyota EPC but not installed since switching from PC to Mac.

    Cheers,

    Sounds like an interesting project...

You've probably already found this out through your research, but you know that the early Soarer stackers rarely work anymore... and the ones that do will probably not work for much longer? They're ~20 years old now...

Have you considered one of the other factory / dealer fitted stacker set-ups? They were pretty common on 90's Toyotas... I've spotted a few at wreckers over the years. They're usually Kenwood / Fujitsu ones, come in both single and double DIN sizes and have those stackers that bolt on under the parcel tray in the boot...

Thanks. I'm really only doing this as (1) I got all the components for next to nothing, (2) curiosity, and (3) just to add to my store of knowledge. I was talking to another Toymods person out at PnP about these, and he said pretty much the same thing. If none of this works then I'm not overly fussed.

Yeah, there are a few imports appearing at the wreckers of late, especially the Soarers and a Lexus or two. The Lexus I saw recently still had the stacker in the glovebox but I had no way of knowing how to remove it (although research now shows me its not that hard). If its still there in the next week or so (not likely) I might have a go at it.

    Cheers,

I went out to Pick'n'Payless today and found another Soarer. This one had the larger subwoofer (10") than the one I got before (8"). The stacker had a local repair label on it indicating some repairs had been done to it back in 2007. I was in luck as it also had its cartridge (magazine) intact.
