    Default TRD Hilux power upgrade

    Hi

I have a friend with a TRD Hilux S/C 4.0L and he wants to boost it up and get some more power out of it..
Has anyone on here or know anyone thats perfomed some mods to one of these if so what results have been achieved??
We were thinking about a smaller pulley, extractors, exhaust, and if posible a tune, if anyone knows what kind of computer will work with these trucks I have heard Chip torque do a piggy back but I'm not a huge fan of piggy backs.

    Cheers

To be perfectly honest the best mod would be to leave it stock.
Have seen a few of these grenade even when stock let alone modded.

Really that doesn't sound good at all

At the moment it runs 5.5 - 6 psi its not like a Toyota engine to grenade with such little boost considering its got a water to air intercooler on it

I think if thats what they do stock he might have to think about it

Any other comments or opinions would be greatly appreciated

AFAIK they run an Eaton MP90, which is probably near its safe limit on that engine.

If he really wants more power, ditch the MP90 and get a Harrop HTV1900.

Even upgrading the exhaust can throw the ECU into safe mode. (Based on TRD Aurion...)

I reckon put a smaller pulley on and get the exhaust done, they run rich as from the factory

    I'll be watching this

^^^ It was all well and good to do that do cars built 10+ years ago but modern factory ecus are not so mod friendly. They do not like things going outside set parameters thus with extra boost, bigger exhausts they cracks the sads and pull out all the fun and install limp mode.

You will need to find someone who is able to tune the factory ecu, or as suggested piggy back it etc. Otherwise you will be left with a steaming pile of shit that is slower then the factory car.
    If in doubt power out

rotorex do a "230rwkw" kit for n/a 1grfe's. might be worth asking them what they do ecu wise.

I've seen that red one on other forums, that is something to aim for. It goes pretty hard from what I've seen
