    Smile 2JZ best single turbo

    Hi all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot. I am starting turning spanners in about 5 weeks but need a single.

Plan is single turbo now with stock computer and safc. (Twins are already off and I need to buy the turbi)

    2 things.

Which turbo (can you include intake and exhaust ratios rather than just GT35 etc)

    And / or

Anyone got a good one for sale?

    Cheers.

Have you thought about fuel requirements, stock ecu manifold pressure limitations and such when asking "best single turbo"

eg: T78 may be the best for a certain application

whereas a GT35 may also be the best in terms of another application i.e accel/quick spool

It might be worth your while throwing money at engine management and fuel systems before choosing a turbo to "best" suit you.

Im not well informed about JZ engines but that is just my general view on the topic.

You need to give us a bit more to go on... like your goals

Drag Car? Circuit Car? Daily Driver?

    Desired power?

if it is a daily driver dont be afraid of retaining the twins if they will fit in the bay... Seen a few 2jz's with singles that aren't the most fun to drive.

Agree with the above, you need to state your goals and intentions for the car, because there are a wide variety of turbos which will "work" on a 2JZ but not all of them will suit you.

I'm stoked with my GT35R (1.06 rear, .70 front) but some would say it's too laggy while others would say it won't make enough power.

I've had a T78 in my Supra for over 4 years and initially, the only supporting mods I had were, an FMIC. The clutch did die one me about 4 weeks later though.

The T78 is perfect for around town and even better on fuel economy, I actually achieved more ks to a tank than when I had the standard turbo's on there. Why, I was never on boost !! Please be warned that this turbo is a lightswitch though, you put your foot flat and you will light the tyres.

I have since upgraded and my old turbo is nicely packed away for anyone that might be interested in it. It's just the turbo though, not the manifold, shoot me a PM if you're interested.

    Cheers

ive got a 35r 1.06 rear, .7 front and is great for a street car. not much lag at all and still making 500rwhp with fuel upgrade. will make more but factory coil packs might let you down to make more like mine.

Factory coils are good for more power than that, but you do have do upgrade the ignitors. I have an MSD CDI module with factory coils, only making 442rwhp at the moment but with plenty of headroom if I ever get around to tuning it for more boost.

I've also got a 1.06 GT35r, making 320rwkw (was making 350rwkw before a leaning out issue scorched the exhaust blades)

As above, I find it great on the street - it's off boost and fuel economical most of the time (well, relatively - no worse than stock), but 3500rpm to redline is a wild ride that most street tyres have trouble handling. Mine is a street/track car. for pure street I'd be tempted to downsize the rear housing to bring boost on earlier and make the power a little more progressive.
Then again, if it was a pure track car with appropriate mods, a GT42 might not be out of the question

TO4Z is pretty similar to the GT35R, they make a bit more power but are slightly less responsive.

anybody running the stock twins? Mine are in really good condition, i was looking at an autronic sm4 and have already put a wilbro pump in the tank. I was thinking of making the twins true twin turbo and running a boost controller.

TTC feels faster, but makes less power pretty much across the range.

    do not do!

TTC mode yelded me 250rwkws with an exhaust, filter, BOV and front mount all on heavy 20x10 wheels.

stuff all these small turbos...gt42 all the way. you only have the spooling whistle before people leave you alone haha

but if your keeping the stock computer and so on i would stick with a 35/40 or T04z. the big question you need to ask youself is how far do you want to go to reach your power goals.

I made 300rwhp at 1 bar and 350 rwhp with 18psi with my twins. In a manual car. That was in true twin but bit the shortcut way that everyone does. I actually separated the log manifold an got a sleeve made to make each turbo have it's own wastegate. Proper twin dumps and I reckon another 20-30 hp is doable. And very
responsive . I'm planing on doing that setup again on the next project.
On another note my 2jz gt35 with a .82 made 390 rwhp at 21psi throu an auto with a 3k stall and didn't lock the convertor .
