    Default Pros and cons of lowering the front more than the rear

    Basically after a run down on the positve and negative effects having the front lower than the rear, im told it can reduced understeer but i imagine underbraking the rear would oversteer more as all the weight will be up front(just an assumption). Thanks In advance

    it utterly and completely depends on what type of suspension and the suspension angles you have.

    more specifically, it depends on your roll-centres.

    as for weight, lowering front say, 40mm compared to rear will do so little in terms of weight distribution, you won't notice it.

    if your CoG was in the centre of the car, it would lower it 20mm, again, buggerall compared to the changes in roll-centres

    Come on River, stop filling up the forum with junk =P. he may be using Enggrish, but you ca still make out his post.
    As to how the car behaves will be dependant on a lot of factors.
    Double wishbone will behave differently to McPherson. If the car is set up with anit dive. General suspension geometry. Weight distribution so on.
    From experience I haven’t found there to be “much” difference, when I was experimenting with my Celica. Lowering the car by 40mm in the front made the front rear balance shift 2-3% from memory. Not really enough to do anything for a street car.

    I had a TE Cortina with live rear end and conventional front suspension once. I got the front lowered with king lows but never got around to the rear (Had a gas tank that sat it a bit lower than stock so it looked ok).

    The lower front improved turn in and the shift in weight towards the front (in addition to the iron block) made it easy to rip epic dorifto. The 4L 6-cyl engine in the 1200kg car had more than enough torque to keep the thing sideways through multiple corners. :3

    The big con is it will look stupid, my car sure did when it was ramrod style before i got the rear custom springs re-set.

    only real change i can think is it will reduce your caster, which could be quite noticable depending on what wheels you run.

    in a racing car, it would affect the underbody aero, but on a street car, as oldcorollas and mikey said, it will affect your roll centers more than anything, roll centers are the axii (?) about which your car rotates in roll, many people do not consider them and their effects on camber change, roll rate and other such kinematic functions. Suspension is designed with certain geometry, and playing with it drastically can make your car handle worse overall. Reading your first post, i do not exactly know what are trying to achieve, if you maybe post what you want to achieve with the handling of your car, maybe some of us could help you a tad more?

    Thanks for the input guys, the car is now level but the front looks alot higher since the guard flare(FAIL) i just need the wheel to tuck in i was think the rear about 1/2 inch lower and the front a full inch but im far from a handling expert

    your rims and tyres appear to be the wrong size

    if you lower the rear (assuming IRS and wishbone?) to tuck in, means you haev borrible camber gain with compression = shitty traction when accelerating

    at the front, if your lower arms are pointing up enough to tuck those wheels in that far, then you have a realllly low roll centre and only gets worse with bump = camber gain during braking....

    ie, worst of both worlds


    plus instant defect for the rims AND tyres sticking otu of the guards...

    maybe get some lips made up, so they look right (in terms of height) and they cover the wheels when looking from above = non-defect.....

    ^ and of course nobody wants borrible camber ...

    i imagine this car looks pimpin even more in real life, looks clean & nice large rims.. good style. but please do get the guards sorted, they look like could cut a finger off and will be raped by defect

    Looks like the front Tyres are too far out, need to pull them in.
