    Default 2KD-FTV in to Hilux

Hi I am looking in to putting a 2KD-FTV in to a '95-'97 dual cab to replace the 3L.

I have not bought the Hilux yet I had a '94 4runner 3L turbo until a year or so ago and was not all that impressed with the IFS so I am going to get a solid front and rear dual cab but I was thinking a new DOHC more powerful and more economical 2.5L D4D engine would be a good choice for a conversion. My main concern is the gearbox it would be great if the W58 from the 3L ( some one correct me if I am wrong ) would bold up with a R series bell housing or will i have to use the R series gearbox and transfer case and adapt that to fit. the rest of the drive train?

Or is this a stupid idea and should I just forget about the whole thing?

Any one who has done this or has any links or thoughts please let me know

    Cheers

    Chris

What does the 2KD come from in Australia? Or is it import only?

Why not use the 1KD ?.. has 500cc more capacity and a lot more power and torque out the of the box, especially in Prado trim? Maybe easier to find?

    Import only.
I think the 2KD would offer better fuel economy and I just want to be different

My old man gets 10L / 100K at best with his 1KD in a 2006 or 2007 hilux cant remember the exact year now.

I would hope to get 8 or at worst 9L to the 100K.

I saw a 2.5litre turbo diesel in a Hiace the other day
Mate of mine has Hyundai Iload with 2.5 litre turbo diesel 125kw goes like rocket and uses less fuel than his old Pregio diesel

a box full of hamsters eating peanut butter would have better economy/power than the 5L/5LE (3 litre oil-burning donk) - you might have to get the bell-housing that comes with the newer motor?

I am pretty sure the 2KD came in the hiace vans.

    2WD or 4WD dual cab?
    4wd have a G series box.
I would assume that they would not have changed the bolt pattern on the KD series compared with the 1KZ, so an R series box would be the go.
Any reason you can't just buy a front cut with the box attached to the back of the motor? Probably easier to change the cross member than trying to sort out bellhousings.

2KD came in Hiaces here. Main concern should be the wiring/management.

The Hiace has tricky electronics connected to accelerator pedal
