I've heard stock MAP/ECU to understand something around 0.4bar.
From the bucks to horsepower point of view it's definitely better to go 1jz-gte instead of charging n/a 1jz.
Hey guys,
Can you run a single turbo on a JZZ30 engine with the stock ecu? Or is the flow/pressure difference gonna mess it all up cos it's map not afm?
Cheers,
Wes

lol
mate i have done this with out any problems, best to whack it on a dyno to check for air/fuel ratios to ensure its not leaning out to be safe in the long run though. Also so long as gate pressure is lower than boost cut for stock ecu, approx 14psi.
Your fine up to 1BAR of pressure (smidge over 15psi), which is where boost cut is. You'll want a fuel computer of some sort but that should do it unless the turbo is huge. I'm running a single with just a SAFC.

damn, t/s was talking about twin-turbo 1jz. I thought the intention was to install a single in n/a 2jz which some soarers came with. Fail =)

ok sweet, but won't work without an safc or similar right? (even with lower boost?)

Yes can be done before I had a FCD it was set to 13psi and ran fine after fcd set to 16psi good enough for me dont want to blow stuff up without checking AFR!!!

You don't need a SAFC or similar but I'd factor one in just in case, you don't want to run a more modern turbo making more power at less pressure and leaning out or having a completely different power curve and running bloody rich.
After I had my SAFC tuned properly almost all it was doing was actually taking fuel OUT, the stock ECU adjusted pretty damn well but was doing the typical Toyota thing and running really rich.

I'm running mine on untuned stock ecu setup, i have added an emanage blue (~$250) - but this was to compensate for running bigger injectors, i've not actually modified the tune if that makes sense, just auto corrected for injector size..
Anyway, at 8psi with the new setup it all seems happy and still pretty rich (but lean enough to be on the chart now... haha) - much more boost and i'll certainly be at least checking it / tuning.
If you want to see how dyno looks mixture wise compared to stock, look in my thread

If you are going to the effort of getting a big single and changing that pipework, Get an Emanage Blue and Use it to tune AFR and get the optional injector and ignition harnesses and have a really good result.
