Ideally it should be at least 12" away from turbo outlet (anywhere nearer requires heat sink), and is positioned on the upper half your exhaust pipe(9 o'clock - 3 o'clock).

Should it also be clear of where the Ex.WG gases merge??
Before or after or not an issue?
Shouldnt make any difference, but to be on the safe side, go after the merge.

Ideally should be after the merge, but I have no issue with my external wastegate and screamer pipe :-)
12 inches after the merge for me.
Because ive got a single turbo setup, the o2 sensor is currently on the bend before it goes down following the firewall. Im just going to take the O2 sensor out and put the wideband in there. Its roughly 12 inchs maybe alittle bit less.
should be alright fellas?
If the sensor overheats from being too close to the turbo you can make a heatsink for it.
alright maybe ill leave the oxygen sensor in the original spot
Weld the bung somewhere under the car instead. Is that okay then?
I have mine at the bottom of the dump before the cat, works for me
