    Default Turbocharging a 3sge beams (rs200)

I've been doing some searching on the web and I was wondering if there would there be any advantages over turbo'ing a 3sge beams from the rs200 instead of going for a 3sgte straight away. One advantage I can think of is the dual vvt-i but maybe there are more? Like better design of the engine or oil squirters etc..?

on the kiwi tezza site there was a smart lad who built a frankenstien engine to cope with boost.... off the shelf at 16psi it ran up 250 rwkw with an incredibly strong midrange. The sheer flow of the blacktop head means spooling is really fast and torque is huge from mid to highend.

he used some modified 2j pistons i believe...

without opening the bottom end, 200 rwkw seems to be the limit due to the really high compression.

if its rwd, i dont see a reason NOT to use the rs200 engine and turbo it, to avoid the difficulties with changeing the fwd motor around... but for good numbers you need to build the bottem end up...

Sounds fair enough, if I was going to turbocharge the 3sge then I was indeed planning on rebuilding the bottom end with some forged pistons and rods and possible crank as well.
If my information is correct people also use the pistons and rods from the 3sgte?

250rwkw on 16psi would be my goal as well so do you have a link to that guys topic?

use eagle rods and buy toda turbo pistons, gen 3 3sgte pistons wont work neither will gen 4 3sgte either

yeah glen i think thats why he went 2j pistons... they still needed a fair bit of flycutting to clear the vvti valves .... he got it wrong the first time....

ill have a hunt for the thread...

dunno how much toda pistons are, but another option is to get somewhat custom CP pistons. just 3s ones with a larger and altered angle of the valve reliefs.

doesnt work that way ,as the valve angle is way different look at a gen 3 there is 25mm between the cam pulleys the beams is 5mm apart inlet lay back is 18 and exhaust is 22 and the valves are very close to the bore ,even the head gasket is different

    Altezza Club Of NZ/Australia -> 2j + 3s = Homebuilt Hybrid

was a hks gtrs i believe..

and it was 245 rwkw at HUBS.... but still mighty impressive for such low boost.

I'm considering this as an option for when my CA18DET finally lets go. The Toda Pistons are the way to go, and are ¥98,000, ($1132AUD at the moment.) Pricey yes, but a ultra high quality product. They also make cams and rods. For a race engine it's the way to go.

    Cheers

1132 for pistons isnt too bad.

if i was goin CP then i'd send them a stock beams piston to get them machined correctly, but i'd assume they'd still start from one of their 3sgte blanks.

Turbo hicomp is a good thing, I've built a couple of SR's and driven some Hondas.

As stated you will be limited in power due to the compression. The best way to combat this in my experience has been to keep the exhaust side as free flowing as possible. Consider a size up in exhuast housings, true quality manifolds and an oversize dump pipe.
