    Default GT4 to RWD?

Hey guys, I'm just wondering if it would be that hard to convert a GT4 celica to RWD, The way i figure would be through the use of a similar kit available for WRX's that deletes the front drive mechanisms. I havn't heard of anything like this being readily available and would probably have to have one made from scratch and it could cost a bit but I was just wondering if anyone had any input into this.

    Cheers,
    Aza.

The difference with Justen's car is that he has used a RWD motor and box, North South mounted and is only using the rear diff. Completely different kettle of fish.

You would need to remove the front driveshafts and possibly disable the front diff, as I'm sure there would be problems with it having no load on it. As well as that, you would probably somehow screw the center diff. To do it all properly, I'd imagine you would need to have the gearbox modified to effectively remove the front diff and lock the centre diff, all in all it wouldn't really be worth it.

    LOL that is too funny.

Back to the topic at hand though, your poor 6.75inch rear diff will last about 2 days once you have managed to convert to RWD only and i have no idea how you'll manage it or why you would even bother.

nods - unless you go full kit like justens * gt8 * its not much point - be happy with AWD grip and the power its able to put down

Anyway - A boosted, more grunty Gt4 - is so so so Much more fun than stock! All they need is a little more power to the wheels - say - about 50 more KW , as a nice all round figure ) and they really are the best bang for bucks AWD car out there IMHO

its worthy to note that justin is using a JZA70 rear cradle and im pretty sure a torsen center?

which is a very long way from the standard rear celica setup.

Close but no cigar :-) It's a JZA70 rear end but a full TRD gearset and clutch LSD straight from the Bathurst Supra Team that Peter Williamson ran/drove for.

Yeah we converted 2 ST165s to RWD but we didnt just remove the front drive shafts. The engine and box was pulled out, the box was dumped, engine was bolted to a w5x, crossmember modified and new engine mounts made, custom gearbox crossmber made, Bilstein struts fitted and front mount IC's.
A few other thinsg were done too, rollcage, brakes etc

I believe one of these cars now lives in NZ.

Nothing small about your imagination but funny all the same

Love to see one of these 165's, how'd you go with the new floor pan? how about the diff? the stocker is only a weanie T series so isn't going to take 3SGTE torque very long and a 2.9:1 ratio ain't exactly the best ratio for a 4cyl? How about some pics, keen to see how it was all done compared to the GT8?

So your the only one in the world to ever do a RWD GT4? I see..
The trans tunnel mods were argued about on the old forums. Dont know what you would need a new floor pan for?
Diff? Who cares? Thats not our problem!
Ratio? Again who cars its still not our problem!
