    Default 'Street' cam for 1UZ

I'm tossing up between doing a few mods to the standard 1UZ (lower manifold and cams), or maybe just going to a VVTi...

There's a few cams available, and the lextreme ones seem to be the value-winner by a long shot, but I can't find any info around about:

How much lift you can run on the stock springs
How many RPM the stock springs will see without 'floating'
    Power gain from cams/manifold...

The cams I'm looking at are:

Lexus cams, Toyota cams, Tundra Cams, GS400 Cams, 1uzfe cams

    Specs are:

    Stage 1: 266 duration/0.345 lift (I guess it's the same for intake/exhaust?)
    Stage 2: 274 duration/0.385 lift

If anyone has any figures/info/oranges...I'm interested

The engine currently has an adaptronic and headers...

I want to keep a decent idle and good fuel economy...

Lextreme cams are budget for a reason....they are simply ground and lose their base circle ie need thicker shims to compensate. Not great for the extra rpm you are seeking.

Kelford billets or Wade regrinds. You will need valve springs.

VVTi has a lot of merit as the heads flow a million times better, as does the VVTi inlet manifold...you wouldn't need to fabricate one with the VVTi setup as it's plenty good enough. Stock cams or reground 2UZ cams seeing the VVTi will be hard to manage on a non VVTi block (plus ECU head fark).

Yeah, stock VVTi seems to be good for 200ish KWATW, so 270hp or so...that's plenty enough for decade Any idea what the WADE cams are worth? I had a pair on the MR2, and they were awesome, but *needed* cam gears. I guess they were a touch out of alignment, without the cam gears it made 130hp (less than stock), with the cams dialled in it made 180hp on the same setup...

To run the VVTi (if I went down that road) I'd probably use one of the new Adaptronics, they look like they've got all the outputs etc...

I'm trying to hunt down a vvti now, just go for something a little bit newer and like Justen said, intake and what not is ready to go. I'm going to try and run it off the 420c, not sure how it will go, might be a step back over the factory ecu but would allow me to run a small amount of boost.

It can be done with the 420C, and it's certainly not a step backwards. You've got 3 dedicated ignition outputs, and one of the PWM outputs can be assigned to ignition, giving you 4 channels total (enough to run the 1UZ VVTi coilpacks in batches of two, which AFAIK the factory computer does)

Only leaves you with two PWM outputs though, one for each VVTi solenoid.

Then you've got 6 switched outputs...4 for stepper motor, one for fuel pump, and one for...whatever you like

It'd be possible, but tight to run a VVTi on the e420c. There is a thread of mine about it on the Adaptronic forums. You could free up a pair of outputs by making a little circuit to control the opening and closing of the ISCV with 2 outputs.

Yeah, you'd be running close to the limit...if I went that way I'd probably sell the existing setup and buy one of the new generation adaptronics...

I wouldn't worry about the iscv. It's the acis that i want, anyone know if its an on/off vsv like the old 7M version? Looks like it should just be the one analogue output. You'd need to loose the drive by wire as well?? but no biggy. I thought the vvti was full sequential fuel and ignition for the cops? By step back I mean running wasted spark with sequential coils, although people have run them like this (Phil is now) it's still not ideal.

acis is always an on/off action like any other vsv
