    Default 2GR-FE Standalone ECU Options

Hokay so looking into the 2GR-FE route for my AW11. I want to run a standalone so I can remove a heap of superfluous sensors/loom (and remove the DBW system as I am hugely not a fan) and I have a few questions: I know the Motec M800 is always touted as being able to control the quad VVTi, however it's out of my price range. I know the Adaptronic e1280 has the required inputs/outputs to run all four VVTi channels in closed loop, but is it able to control the different ways the cams are run (ie. oil vs oil for intake and oil vs spring for exhaust)? Same question applies for the Vipec V88, however I don't really know much about Vipecs so would lean towards the Adaptronic if it will work.
    Cheers guys

ViPEC works great on the 2GR-Fe and will run the throttle as well, all you need is the Aurion throttle pedal. There is no way I would go back to a cable after seeing how well the drive by wire works. On a cold morning we just lean in through the window and hit the start button and the whole warm up cycle is done by the ECU cracking the throttle for cold start and warm up.

Very interesting, I've driven quite a few Aurions and absolutely hated the DBW system so was going back to manual - however could this just be from the sketchy auto logic?

Another vote for Adaptronic...Also a massive vote for a 2GR in an AW11! I've been missing my AW lately

Vipec v88 or the Link G4 xtreme will both run it perfectly, it's a natively supported engine, just select the 2gr trigger and cam control options in the drop-down list and follow the 2gr setup/wiring info in the help file. The current xtreme doesn't have onboard DBW control or the "mixture map" tuning function like the V88. Vipec is now Link's premium brand after they brought it back in-house in NZ. If you retain the DBW with the vipec the throttle will be as responsive as you want, you're the one that puts together the throttle map.

I much prefer the Vipec/Link tuning interface and loggers over the adaptronic. I do like that you can feed your widebands serial output to the adaptronic freeing up an analogue input.

This is some of what's in the Link/Vipec help file, you can download it and have a look yourself. If you download PCLink 4 from Link Engine Management Systems — Link Engine Management Systems - plug-in & wire-in aftermarket ECU's it comes with a lot more base maps you can have a look though.

Outstanding! I'll be passing this info along to my Toyota EFI tech. mate as I know he'll be very interested in it. Now just to get this really big engine into this really little engine bay...

Really wish I'd seen this thread before I wored in the Adaptronic.

Having issues getting the Cam angle sensors to talk to the Adaptronic.

Adaptronic told us to run 12v to the sensors but a bit of research has shown they need a 5v source, anyone have any ideas?

Not on a 2GR, but I use them on all my cars and the cars I build for friends. It's pretty straightforward when you follow vipec's configuration instructions in the help file.

The only platform I've heard of having issues was with the Subaru EZ30R where the lift solenoids were drawing more amps than the ECU outputs supported (lift would not function after a while), so they just put a relay in the circuit to decrease the amp load on the ECU outputs

thanks for being so prompt. i've looked at the Link site. is the link software exactly same as VIPEC?. i dont expect any horrible problems but would love to get hold of a start up map that would save me starting from scratch with the VVT cams. The V88 i got came all set up in a Lotus i just got (Toyota 1ZZ engine), but I'm planning a 2GR supercharged V6 swap,

hey toyspinta have u tried removing the adaptronic and going vipec hehehe

or try running the cam sensors of the 5v tps supply
ls2 ls3 ecus have a separate wire from the ecu that run the cam and crank sensors which is 5v
but if u look inside the ecus its common to the tps

fyi - AEM electronics will be releasing a 2gr-fe compatible engine controller soon to support all four cams.
The ECU will be about $us1400
